It was a silent evening, with the sort of stillness that did not promise tranquillity, but rather the tension in the eye of a storm. In the middle of it all, a door slammed, loud enough to wake up the young man half-slumped in an armchair.
He stretched his long legs, looking for a moment like some strange feline thanks to his long limbs and rather oblique eyes. He grinned at the figure standing across from him. “Pay up.”
“You were right, it would take her more than six days to forgive him.” Sheila grumbled as she fished in her pocket for a blue bill and flung it at her friend. “How long do you think this will last?”
“As long as Torie likes, or until Peter crawls over here to grovel,” Allan said, catching the money in mid-air. “What did she tell you about it?”
“That she’s too busy finishing her thesis to deal with a ‘creep like him’. Those are her words, not mine,” Sheila muttered as she crossed her arms and leaned against the wall. “This is getting stupid. They do this all the time. She may as well tell him: ‘My forgiveness will be given on a date to be announced’ and leave him hanging.”
Allan snorted, already picturing his classmate coming up to this very door and finding a placard taped to it. “There’s always another solution.”
“Forget locking them in the closet. You do that, you’re disinfecting it once they’re through.”
