Hey, look! I am, in fact: a) not dead, b) not buried in snow (although my car is another story), and c) updating. Small miracles can happen.
First of all, Happy Belated Birthday to well, everyone, since I am very bad about birthdays and am incapable of keeping track of anyone's birthday unless you are either in my immediate family or dating me. Also, thanks to everyone who sent me a Christmas card this year. I would have sent one back to you except for the fact that I was in Taiwan with my family for the entire second half of December, and if you know my family, then you will know that I barely had time to sit, let alone write Christmas cards or postcards. But hey, got to see some very pretty things, some very cool things, and spend time with Grandma. All good things for the holiday season.
The Boy and I passed the year mark without incident. It's nice to say that we've been dating for over a year now. It's also weird. I can't believe it's already been that long. Anyway, aside from our usual disagreements, happiness ensues on that front.
Oldest sister had her baby shower last weekend, so I got to experience the Bitter Cold that was in Saint Louis. I also got to see a lot of green and yellow onesies. Speaking of Bitter Cold, it has stopped being ridiculously cold here, just snowy. Last night everyone was saying that it was taking half an hour to travel a block, so I left my car parked on the street and walked home. Took ~20 minutes; not bad at all. I walked to lab this morning and unfortunately, I'm not sure if I can get my car out of the snowbank it's in, but the snow is pretty powdery, so perhaps I can borrow a snow shovel from one of the houses on the street. Of course, getting back to my street and not sliding down it is another story entirely. I'll be shocked if they plow by the time I get home (and yet, I will still be pissed if they haven't. Go figure). If I can make it to my driveway, that'll be fine, but then getting out of my driveway later and not getting into an accident going down the hill will be a feat. I have done it before, but sliding downhill sideways isn't fun. Trust me, I've tried it.
Grad school is actually going well; I've been doing a lot of experiment and getting a lot of data, and my last committee meeting went well. I'm close to a paper, too. Yay for papers.
Anyway, life is pretty decent right now. When my biggest problem for today is figuring out where to park my car when I get back to my street, I can't complain too much.
