phew. What a vacation!
I got this week off since we finished testing all of our spines :P (hehe)
anyway, I left early thurs morning with my dad on the 6:10 (AM!!!) train to get to penn station when I took the chinatown bus down to 15th and K st in Dc. Unfortunately everyone was still at work (what nerve!) so I ended up buying some chinese food and sitting a nice park reading my sherlock holmes book.
At about 2 I met elise and got a key to her house (which rocks btw). It's 3 stories (plus a roof, but it isn't really meant for people even tho its used). She shares it with two seniors Amanda from dartmouth and a guy trey from georgetown (whose gf is also a frequent resident). I got the nice and cool basement single for the time being (it was pretty hot when I got there).
around dinner time, we (jess, elise and I) decided to meet at metrocenter and find place to eat. Elise was delayed so jess and I walked around and we ended up meeting elise and eating a good dinner at 'elephant and castle'.
The next day I woke up at the hearty hour of 12 and hung around with trey who spends most of his day watching movies on hbo. we had watched american wedding, when I decided to go downtown.
I saw the smitsonian museum of american history which was cool (it had an exhibit on polio and on warfare) and I went to the museum of nat history (obv...bugs, dinosaurs? whats not to like?). I also went to this fair the smithsonian was having on the mall (a big grassy field in between the capitol and washington monument) which was cool cuz there were CAMELS!!!!
for dinner elise and I met vivek and his friend devron in bethesda and we ended up eating at the austin grill where we all got really good mexican food. Afterwards vivek drove us back to elises house and we all (along with jess) went out on the town so to speak. We got some really good gelato and went into a hookah bar, (just went in...it was full). After vivek and devron left, jess spent the night with us.
Saturday elise and I went to the zoo!! Well first we went to the folklife festival and saw some authentic omani crafts which was cool. Anyway, at the zoo we entered from the wrong end apparently...there were hardly any animals...but by the time we had got to the good part it was time to go to e's friend, Katie belle's, house.
This was quite a ragey time. I met a lot of new people who were really cool and I was one of the only 'science' guys there so it was quite the uproar when I was talking about matlab with another fellow nerd. But it was a very fun time.
Finally, this morning I was very sad to go, my trip was a lot of fun and probably one of the most singular incidents of my summer ( I also use the word singular a lot now since I've been reading sherlock holmes) :P
