This weekend was grandly relaxing.
Friday we went to Easton to oogle computers at the apple store and I ended up ordering the 24" iMac. It just became such a hassle to practice my Photoshop work on my dinky little laptop, whose speakers have been on the fritz lately so that you have to close the screen almost all the way and crane your neck in to get both sound and picture. lame. But I'll probably still continue to use my old computer since I will be getting a desktop; at least until I can afford another laptop again. I should be getting my iMac sometime late this week, maybe Friday, which would be very sad indeed since I'm spending the weekend in Kent and wouldn't get to play with it until Monday.
Later on Friday, we went out to Bento for Justin's birthday. I wasn't feeling particularly social though, and spent most of my time bouncing in and out of conversations with Angad and Sita. It was weird being one of the only "liberal arts majors" (since most everyone there is still in school and identifies each other by major) in the group. Most others were paired off discussing mathematical theories and scientific matters. Because I spent the last 30 minutes yawning almost continuously, we headed out around midnightish, which was still pretty late since I had to drive Deanna to the airport Saturday morning at 6:30 am.
Roads were scummy but luckily everything went off without a hitch with Deanna and I assume she is still in Wisconsin, safe, sound and having a good time. I accidentally slept until 3:30 and scrambled to get showered and dressed to meet Jason for lunch. I got more Noodles & Co. (YUM) and we chatted about all sorts of mature, grown-up stuff :P He did a few errands with me and we got some coffee so he could show off *his* new Mac powerbook and in turn got me really excited to get mine. Luckily he has a bunch of programs that I needed/wanted so I won't be starting completely from scratch with my Mac. Later that night I think I ended up at Stauf's with Morgan so he could study and I could finish
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (another book I highly, highly recommend, probably going to be one of my favorites of the year).
Sunday was brunch at Victorian's (boy am I glad that's only 2 blocks away), which turned into a marathon reading session while Morgan studied more. I need to learn how to drink coffee faster than it gets cold. Later, I realized that with Deanna in Wisconsin and Tim somewhere....not here, it hit me that I was all alone at my house, which is a very eerie feeling for me. I don't mind being home alone during the day, but as soon as night falls I get extremely paranoid and uncomfortable. I don't enjoy living alone; I never have and I never will. Even just having someone at home with a door closed and music on is better than nothing but dark rooms and creaky floorboards. In order to avoid this inevitable night-time nightmare, I made Sean go see a movie with me. We got stomach busting burritos and saw
Factory Girl. After seeing this movie and not realizing that Andy Warhol was played by Guy Pearce the entire time, I've decided he is the best actor of all time, ever, times a million. I don't know why I do not own Priscilla, Queen of the Desert yet, but that will be ameliorated soon. I miss hanging out with Sean. I'm not sure why we don't see movies more often.
Cut to yesterday, my second Sunday. I spent most of it at Stauf's with Matt, reading another book. Bumped into Dave and Joanna and sat next to them for a while. After a few hours, I went home to bake some vegan lasagna and spongey chocolate chip cookies and I finished
The Sea and Poison, which I started Sunday and started another new book. What can I say, I need to keep up to my goal of reading 120 book this year.
I'm pretty sad to not have any more days off until the end of May but depending on when I officially get my vacation time, I maybe be able to take at least one day off for a mini road trip or something in late March/April. I think Morgan and I are looking at Chicago again, maybe enjoying an Amtrak there instead of having to drive then worry about a car all weekend.
I'm so glad the past 2 days have been mild. All the snow is finally melting and it's nice to be able to see pavement again. It's also great to not have to wear my marshmallow poof jacket all the time; light jackets make me feel like it's spring again. SPRING! I can feel it already. After all, Phil didn't see his shadow, and you know what that means :D
ps, throw me some beads!
