I read a lot of books but more often then not I loose intrest half way through and stop. One of the few that escaped this fate is:

Wild Swans: Three daughters of China by Jung Chang

Synopsis from Amazon:

Through the story of three generations of women -- grandmother, mother and daughter -- Wild Swans tells nothing less than the whole tumultuous history of China's tragic twentieth century, from sword-bearing warlords to Chairman Mao, from the Manchu Empire to the Cultural Revolution. At times terrifying, at times astonishing, always deeply moving, Wild Swans is a book in a million, a true story with all the passion and grandeur of a great novel.

I can only recommend this book, it's a fascinating read - I was never really interested in China and new very little about its history - this has certainly changed now - and so next  on my list to buy is Mao: The Unknown Story also by Jung Chang and Jon Haliday

I'm like the worst person to write a review so if you want to read more go here. Heck just go buy the book you wont regret it.
