Feng Changjiang was born in 1943 in the ancient cultural city of Xian Henan Province. He developed an interest in painting at a young age and is a self-taught artist. He first practiced Western painting and the Chinese ink-and-wash technique, and has specialized in the traditional meticulous brushwork painting. In 1974, Feng studied traditional meticulous brushwork heavy-color painting and replication of ancient frescoes under a famous art historian. He also applied his skills of replicating frescoes at Yung-li Palace (Rui city), Qing-long Temple, Fan-zhi Rock, Kai-hua Temple, and Lou-rui Tomb (Taiyuan). The experience has benefited his artistic development and formed a solid foundation for the maturation of his style. Feng specializes in portraits but has also created other subjects such as landscape as he is especially skilled in handling pictures with a huge scene. The female portraits he created are graceful, charming, and full of oriental elegance. These characteristics reveal his solid techniques and outstanding performances in art. Feng’s works integrates the rhythm of the traditional lineal approach and the spectacular color approach of the West, with a strong sense of modernity.
