i picked you up a leaflet brochure thing from leith today so you'll get it soon.

i like that place. today was encaustic painting with wax and resin and crushed pigment and it was mega messy. good though. although the end result made me hope that it's more about the process than the result.

what is encaustic painting when it's at home?

when it's at home it's dangerous.

we painted the board yellow because it's the lightest colour and appears in everything and then covered that in melted wax mixed with red and yellow pigment. next we painted the still life in front of us using oil paint mixed with turps resin which has kind of a greasy buttery quality and used craft knives and razor blades to scrap away layers to get the yellow light of the background to shine through.

it's quite hard to explain. and quite hard to accomplish. it's fun and physical and getting pleasing textures and colour contrasts is quite easy, but it's hard to get a proper tonal range.

anywaaayyy.....

Depends. Do you like buildings/Landscapes/People, etc.
Do you prefer Colour or Black & White?
Daytime or Nighttime?
