Hey darlin',
We've had a break in the fighting for a little now that we're closer to Amber's Eastern gate so I'm sitting down to write this while I have time.
I'm sorry my departure was so quick that I didn't get to say a proper goodbye. I promise I'll make it up to you when we get home. I miss you dearly.
The Warpack is, as always, an impressive group. They still find it strange that I refuse rank or commission but Kazimir has been treating me like lieutenant. The fighting's been bloody thus far. We've fought Wyverns and Twisted Dogs and the people tainted by the Black Road. In fact, a group of the Tainted set a trap for us. We all knew it was a trap when we saw one little pocket in the country that hadn't been touched yet... but Kazimir said he couldn't leave innocent women and children behind so he, Rae, myself and a few others approached the house. The clever little bastards had hidden them selves under ground, of all places, and waited for us to walk by and talk to the woman before they revealed themselves. Needless to say that we kicked their tainted asses. I did get a nice stab to my shoulder with a silver blade but it's healing nicely. Though we've had losses they've lost more. You should hear the Warpack's battle howls, Niamh... they send shivers up your spine. The good kind.
I was sent out on a solo recon assignment earlier today and ran into Zane. Sometimes he makes me wonder how he's still alive. I mean... who would wander through a battle zone from Weirmonken all the way to here... alone? Besides me? But I was assigned to do it. Anyway, he and I were on our way back to the Warpack when he saw tracks that weren't the Warpack's so we followed them. We were ambushed. Now, Zane may be young, he may be inexperienced but the boy is good with a bow. I'll give him that.
After that we resumed our trek back to the Warpack but we both caught a familiar scent. Following it we found Lilith. She'd been injured but not so badly that she was in a lot of pain or couldn't walk. I took both of them back to the Warpack and left them with Kazimir. They said they wanted to stick around and help. I was tired though, after fighting for nearly three straight days, so I went to get cleaned up and now I'm writing you before I tend to my weapons and armor then shift and go find a place to sleep.
Oh! You probably noticed the long pointy teeth in the envelope already. They're Wyvern teeth. I thought you might like to have them. Maybe you can use them for jewelry or something. I had ripped the wing off of one and beat it to death with it but that's a little to large to lug around marching... let alone send back with the runners.
Love,
Nik
P.S. Please don't throw away my favorite clothes while I'm gone. If you can, though, will you send back my orange hat for me, please? I forgot it.
letter,
niamh,
