When I heard the potential release date for the project, I wondered how they would possibly manage that. Every description of the amount of mandatory OT was made with 'at least' tacked on, because I almost expected this. And yet I'm still cranky:
By demand of the customer to fit their development cycle the project's been extended. I'll be doing 68+ hour work weeks now "at least" the next 7 weeks through the end of August, instead of July.
Meanwhile the boss continues to average 1/2 to 3/4ths of the time in the office working than we do, every day. Usually arriving at work 2 to 3 hour after we do and leaving 1 to 3 hours before we do, at no time since this project started has he ever done the time he demands of us. He knows not who is on what shift and, content to sit in his office behind his usually closed door, has made no attempt to set any sort of example for what he preaches. He continues to harp on us about improving bug registration numbers though, making widely useless 5-minute time-wasting group meetings just to tell us to pick up the pace, and is staring at hiring at least 3 replacements on my shift alone (not counting night shift) because some are burning out or finding reasons why they cannot do so much OT.
Apathy is at an all-time high, respect for this hypocritical "mini-boss" (he's a bit short) and a wistful nostalgia for our previous boss a recurring conversational topic on secret chats. But we'll plug on.
I am saving some scathing points of experience for my eventual exit interview with HR when I resign.
At least I've gotten better at not simply curling up and lazing at night, and can draw somewhat for the few hours before sleep is scheduled.
