After riding the bus all week, I was finally able to drive my truck to work today. Once I got home, however... it took me four tries to get into my parking spot. My back wheels kept spinning out about halfway there. Thankfully, I have two conjoined spots and was able to park diagonnally through both of them. I am so glad this week is almost over. My cold never developed into anything more than a sore throat... although I might end up loosing my voice before the end. Cool! I love it when my voice goes all deep and husky. hehehe
And another ice storm is expected for tonight. The last storm didn't quite pan out like they predicted... maybe this one will be also be nothing. I hope so. I don't want to take the bus tomorrow.
Chains.
We had a woman come into the clinic today. By this point the roads were pretty much clear of snow and ice. Her son had put chains on her car early this morning and she still had them on. She was concerned, though, that one of them had come loose was was damaging the underside of her car. So I went out and took a look. It wasn't loose. It was broken. I can just imagine what the broken ends of the chains were doing as she drove. *shudders* Needless to say, one of the lab guys removed them for her.
I understand that people don't want to go through the bother of removing the chains, especially when there is a potential of snow or ice on the way, but they don't seem to realize how dangerous it is to leave them on when they are not needed. It wears on the chains and damages the road... The chains they make now really aren't that difficult to remove or put back on. Even one of my co-workers was asking around wondering if it would hurt to drive to Walgreens with chains on (again, the pavement was clear and dry by this point). She drives a new mustang. *shudders* I told her not to do it. I can just picture the potential damage to her fenders or wheel wells or her differential.
