Cause you come swimming into view
And I'm hanging on your words like I always used to do
The words we used so lightly I only feel for you
I only know because I carry you around in the background
I hate it when the whole part of the song I want to put in the title box doesn't fit. So there's the rest of it.
It's sophmore year and I'm getting the feeling people want me to decide what I want to be when I grow up. Teachers are talking about SATS and colleges and guidance councelors are guiding and counceling me and trying to get me to make my mind up. So I've decided to make a list of careers I might want to pursue.
-Beach bum
-John Lennon
-The person that sells YKK zippers to clothing stores
-Drifter
-Housewife
-Missionary
-Movie director
-Movie script writer
-Photographer
-Graphic design artist
-Normal artist
Those all seem like fairly good ideas. I think I'm leaning toward John Lennon right now. I got that idea from the Breakfast Club when Vernon and Janitor Carl are talking:
Richard Vernon: What did you wanna be when you grew up?
Janitor Carl: When I was a kid, I wanted to be John Lennon.
I don't want a job that will tie me down. I want to be able to leave and be spontaneous. And I don't want to work a lot. I want to be able to sleep and spend time with my husband. I don't want a lot of money. And being John Lennon seems ideal because I can do other things while I'm being him. Like I could be a drifter and John Lennon at the same time. And I could drift to the beach and be a beach bum, a drifter, and John Lennon. That's three at once. And I still wouldn't have to spend all that much time doing stuff. I could hang out on the beach. And I could even paint a picture or two on the side and be a beach bum, a drifter, John Lennon, and an artist. And that works out particularly nicely because John Lennon was an artist. And I bet he went to the beach before.
Another good idea is I could be Janitor Carl. Because he had a great life and he bonded with the Breakfast Clubbers and he was really cool. And I bet he'd be glad if he knew someone was aspiring to be him. So I'll keep that in mind too.
When my guidance councelor was talking to me about my grades and college and a career, she was surprisingly decent to talk to. She seemed like a real person with a sense of humor and original thoughts, and not just like she lives at school. Last year my guidance councelor was the least real person ever. His name was Mr. Toland and he had no personality at all and he was like, "You uh you really need to eh get your grades up. Your parents called or something uhhh" and then he fell asleep. Just kidding. He didn't fall asleep. But he was really boring.
Anyways, I have to do my homework, but I just wanted to make that list so I can look back on this journal in a few years and know what to do with my life.
