WTF?

Is is just me, or has Gossip Girl jumped the shark in the most ridiculous way possible?

So I'm not an unreasonable person - I was enjoying the light nonsensical fun of Gossip Girl, but the shark has quite thoroughly been jumped!
* Twice this series Rufus has found conveniently-incriminating pieces of paper while rooting around in Lily's purse/drawer. This also means that twice this series Lily has written down or typed out something she didn't want her boyfriend to see and then left it lying around in the apartment they kind of share.
* On that subject, Rufus and Lily don't live together, but a couple of episodes ago, Jenny was in the Van Der Woodson apartment, with a date, without Eric or Serena. Chuck arrived home and didn't bat an eyelid to see her there. How did she get in? Why was she hanging out there?
* Lily was terribly concerned about Serena's good reputation, so very terribly concerned that she takes immediate action to save her good name...by having her arrested!!!
* Dan, having caused all this trouble by tattling to Lily at every opportunity, bails Serena out of jail...to take her to her prom...because THAT will show Lily who's boss.
* One minute it's all about Blair and Chuck and Nate and Vanessa, and then all of a sudden, Vanessa and Nate break up over nothing just so that Blair and Nate can get back together. Fortunately, Blair is Nate's true love...now that he's dumped Jenny and Vanessa for no reason.
* It's not even worth talking about Dan and Vanessa and their irritating on-again/off-again romance. But don't worry, they break up often enough that Serena can get involved with he's-just-conning-you/oh-no-he's-not/oh-yes-he-is types.
* And of course, the worst episode yet - The One With The Prom. No, wait, it's actually a secret in-series pilot for the spin-off. But the spin-off is clearly going to be awful. And meanwhile, back in the 21st century, Nate and Blair are breaking up for no real reason, Rufus and Lily are probably breaking up for no real reason, Dan and Serena aren't dating - no, they're honestly not - no, REALLY!
* When's the last time anyone texted Gossip Girl, or she sent out a 'blast' or actually knew about anything? Yet she's still narrating away as if she's hiding around every corner with her Dictaphone.
 * Chuck remains the only thing worth watching here, and they're running out of spurious reasons to keep him and Blair apart.

I can only assume that Josh Schwartz is putting all his effort into writing Chuck, because he's sure as hell phoning Gossip Girl in this season.

And...breathe...
