Alright.
As of now, I can safely say that I am acquainted with my husband's side of the family. A big step forward for
le_natz and I, I must say. I have met (almost all) his uncles, aunties, cousins, nieces, nephews AND several of their friends. 'Twas fun although it was hard to remember their faces and the names attached to those faces, especially after they've changed their clothes. Before then, I'd remember them by processing thoughts like "Lina is the one in the off-white kebaya with the frilly what-not and the hole-y sleeves who is the daughter of that older woman with the dark batik-like kebaya with big glasses and hugged me tight and kissed me.. I think."
Speaking of kisses, this question goes out to the Malay girls (and guys) out there, how many of your families do that.. salam, then they pull you in to touch your cheeks together on both sides.. sorta like how the French kiss on both cheeks, but without the actual kissing?
Well, I certainly am NOT used to it, and every time I salam, they suddenly have this vice-grip on your hand and literally pull you in for that cheek-kiss thing. So the moment our hands touch, I as the salam-er will share this weird awkward moment with the salam-ee, where I go "What do I do? What do I do?!?!". I'm just grateful that I was lucky enough not to make the mistake of turning my head the same direction she does and having to (probably) kiss on the lips.
But overall, I had a great time and sleeping in their air-conditioned room never felt better after a day of running around looking for photographers and baby's breaths and boxes of earrings and writing names on papers and all the other wonderfully exciting fuss that was going on.
It was undoubtedly fantastic and they all told me to come see them again. Though I do remember
pravoxian telling me that they told him the exact same thing and now I wonder, do they tell everyone who comes visit them that??
