The real meaning of this holiday.

Nov 23, 2006 00:38

So often do we engage in holidays and not really stop to think what their intentions are. For once, I am going to stop and think of all the things I am thankful for tonight before I go to sleep, and hopefully the next time I complain about something, I will recall this list and remind myself that I should shut the fuck up.

I, Nicole Ashley Elizabeth Battaglia, am thankful for the following:

Music, especially good music, and those who work tirelessly to create it
Public transportation
My computer, and the entire Mac company in general
My iPod
My iTrip
Dallas, my car
Gas and how it's not as expensive anymore
My family, and how good they are to me
The house over my head
The food in our pantry that graces our table
Our financial security (no, that doesn't mean I'm rich, it means I won't have to worry about dropping out to support my family)
My parents for finding a way to finance the tution for my dream school so I can play softball, study film, enjoy a beautiful city and grow in leaps and bounds every day
Pool/billiards, for providing me great enjoyment
Alcohol, for crazy evenings, awkward mornings, broken toasters, bruises on my head and memories I won't soon forget (once someone less intoxicated reminds me)
My roommates, for putting up with living with me (no easy task).
Genetics, for making my sister beautiful and fabulously athletic, so she can make me proud every day.
The friends and family I have in my life who support me constantly without waiver
Artists, for bringing beauty into an ugly world
Boston, for having the T
Boston, for having everything I could ever need (clearly my family doesn't count).
My dog, for being faithfully amazing
Puppies, for making me smile constantly.
My hopes and dreams, for giving me a reason to wake in the morning and allowing me to waste countless hours daydreaming
My bed, for always being a little more comfortable than when I last left it.
Beaver, for being ridiculously ironic (and cute)
Miss Regina and Weber, for making me appreciate cats.
Laura Maccini, for being an amazing cook and an amazing mother who produced an amazing daughter
Mike, for being a fabulous fiancee to a woman who needed love and comfort
Hillsborough, for having amazing friends and fun
New Hampshire, for bearing crazy hicks with intense writing abilities and the brightest future I have ever seen
The troops, for honorably putting their lives on the line every moment of every day to fight a war I do not believe in. I still admire them.
Jennifer Boyden, for helping me adjust to Boston and the softball team, to college and to work, to city living and teaching me how incredible I am. And for being just as incredible back
Sweatpants for keeping me comfortable.
Celia Maccini, for being a constant source of emotion. For reminding me what love is after teaching it to me a year ago. Reminding me why I fight and I don't give up. For, even while being a bitch and making me cry, making sure I know that she will always be there. For an endless source of smiles and warmth. For existing in the first place.

I love my life. I cry and whine and bitch a lot, and I hate it, but I am human. Regardless, I love the life I live and everyone and everything in it. I send my love to you all and wish you the happiest Thanksgiving you've had yet.
