Happy didn't even begin to describe how Nikki was feeling. As much as it scared her to know that she was officially a Hogwarts' Graduate, she couldn't get over the fact that the ball had been a dream come true. Yes, she realized that winning queen wasn't going to help her build a career or a family but it did do something for her.
"I am no longer the forgotten one," she giggled, staring at her ceiling as Moose and Goose rested on her chest.
Winning the crown did do something to Nikki. It made her happier about being herself. All her life she had felt as if she was the girl in the shadows or known as just 'Allie's sidekick'. This helped her realize that people actually liked her for who she was. Being nice and just being who are did pay off.
The crown and the title were not her rewards. It was what they meant that really touched Nikki. The majority of the school had voted for her. They had noticed her and they had liked her.
Over the year Nikki had over come alot of things. She had found love, lost her virginity, and then had her heart broken. Her friendship with Allie had been on the rocks but the two realized that they had to work together to solve their problems - and they did. Gwenn had been in trouble and Nikki, as scared as she was, jumped in and helped. That made her realize what being a Hufflepuff was all about. And now, she had won Court Queen at Hogwarts.
Sweet, innocent Nikki knew, now, exactly why she had been placed in Hufflepuff and not Ravenclaw. It was the same reason her grandfather was disappointed in her but she never turned away from him. The same reason she constantly believed in every one of her friends, knowing that they could do anything.
The people in Nicole's life were her life. Without them, she was nothing. And she really understood that, she had all alone. Loyalty was what she was made up of. Nobody needed a magical hat to realize it. Books, brains, bravery...yes, they were all important, but not like bonds. Bonds were unbreakable - they would keep her safe, happy, and alive.
And, finally, after seven years of school, Nicole May Carsini was proud to be a Hufflepuff.
