Nikki rolled over onto her stomach Sunday evening and looked over at Allie's bed. She was laying there like she always was but all of a sudden Nikki felt so far away from her. She had felt that way on and off that way all year. She wanted it to stop because it hurt.

"Pep Rally?" she called, using her favorite nickname for her best mate.

"Why don't you tell me anything anymore?" she asked, sadness flooding her voice.

Rolling over, Allie wiped the black tears from her eyes and forced a wearliy smile, although if was hardly appropriate for what she'd say..

"I don't want to drag you into my mess" She confessed, sniffling.

"I've made such a mess.."

Nikki frowned and sat up. She looked at Allie with her saddest look. And that was the thing about Nikki, when she was sad the world was sad too.
