For the love of chocolate

I miss the freedom to soar over the open fields under an endless sky. I miss meeting others of my kind. They think I don’t know but I do. I know I´m the only one of my kind left. This is not my time. I belong hundreds and thousands of years ago. And I know I will never soar freely again.

But being trapped in this time, I guess this place is as good as any. I´ve made me a comfortable nest on a ledge. I can keep an eye on the little two legged creatures from up here. They have become almost like a little family to me. There are both males and females but the only actual mating I´ve seen has been between two of the males. They seemed to enjoy themselves though I dare say they won’t reproduce.

One of them appears to live here. The others leave every night and come back in the morning, but not him. He brings me food every night before going downstairs but he never talks to me. He seems a little lonely and sad sometimes. But the one I saw him mate with stayed over yesterday so maybe things are about to change. Now that one! He is my absolute favorite.  He is so cute! And every morning he takes time to talk to me and give me chocolate. I never tasted anything so good before I met him. The taste is like nothing else. It is both sweet and bitter at the same time. It is fat and it melts in my beak.  And it makes me feel oddly happy for the rest of the day.  It helps fighting off the melancholy when I´m yearning to soar. In fact I think it makes it all worth it. The chocolate and the boy who provides it. I believe I really love them.
