Star Trek FanFic Rules - additions 1

Apr 30, 2010 15:20

A little while ago myself and a few enablers prepared some rules for writing the bestest fanfics in Star Trek. Today we thought there needed to be a few more added to the list. The previous rules can be found here, while the new additions can be found under the cut...

41. In Mirror!verse fics McCoy can only be a complete woobie. His whole life he has been a good man, just waiting for Kirk to come along and corrupt him because mirror is the opposite of what is in our universe.

42. All women in the mirror!verse are just surprised, convenient holes for all the men to use. The gentle sex has no ability to be psychotic or bad arse at all. Myra, Rosemary, Aileen to name but three ladies that display the gentle arts of womanhood at their finest.

43. You must make sure you read all the other BNF fics first and if you don't write the proper characters topping or bottoming then your characters are completely OOC and why did you bother? Everyone knows that only certain characters top and switching never happens in real life.

44. There are still way too many fics concentrating on Scotty. Please to be writing less Scotty? kthnxbi

45. Gaila talked bad broken english in the movie because she is an alien. She didn't speak complete sentences at all and was more in tune with a bad first year ESL student. Remember that when writing her dialogue.

46. When Pavel thinks in his head, it is in the same broken english that he speaks out loud, because we know that everyone who speaks english as their second or third language has to think in English in their head because there is no other language really. He wouldn't think in Russian at all, with simple sentences and feelings and being able to express his thoughts coherently.

47. If you have a LJ coding fail, just run away and don't fix it. Even posting again, make sure you copy your fail from last time and still don't fix it even if others have offered to help you. It doesn't mess with the quality of your story telling at all. The readers won't mind.

48. If you want to maximise your comments from people make sure you write only witty, clever, plot driven pieces with no smut involved at all. No one wants to read smut only fics with insert random character name here. No one wants to leave comments telling others how many times they came. That's an overshare. Nobody should be fanned either, or in their bunks.

49. In your author's note if you are not happy with your fic, that it bored you, didn't turn out half as well as you thought, then make sure that you tell all readers. It is a sure fire way to make sure you get as many readers as possible because of your honesty and need for people to pep you up instead of taking the time to work with a beta on the fic as they only make it worse.

50. The characters are really Mr Potato Heads in disguise. When writing for one universe it doesn't matter if you like the eye colouring of that character from the other universe. No one will notice you have given them blue eyes or thick brown hair that looks like a helmet instead. Physical descriptions don't really affect a fic's feel at all. No one bothers to really read that to help them create a visual impression.
