Nope, it’s something even more shocking.
btw Ianto starts to put his hands in his pockets, one of the first time he has done it this episode with Jack around.
It’s Owen with flowers.
Ianto is very shocked here and doesn’t quite know how to react, the man who often thinks quickest on his feet appears out of his depth.
He looks to Jack for directions, while Owen is also a little unsure what to do about finding Jack and Ianto in the Hub this early.
Ianto takes himself off for upstairs, to put himself back to ‘together’. Adam and the rest of the team come in and Ianto comes down the stairs and we see him all buttoned up now.
Adam is having a group team hug and Ianto is having none of it.
The last time we saw this face was in Meat, luckily Adam can’t see it, otherwise he really might rethink what he says to Ianto.
Adam calls his name.
He tells Ianto that he could, “murder a coffee”. This is the first time that one of Ianto’s normal jobs has been mentioned.
This is the catalyst for Jack to confront Adam with gun drawn. Ianto backs out of shot, but it seems from the placement of everyone else that he has put himself again at Jack’s back. When we finally see him again he is about to make the move of disarming Tosh. He is back to being Jack’s loyal soldier.
Getting ready.
The team in the boardroom. For once Ianto is sitting while Jack is standing.
Jack moves back to the head of the table and we see that Ianto is at Jack’s right side.
“Our memories define us. Adam changed those memories ... changed who we are. Now I have to help you all go back, find a memory that defines you. Rediscover who you are. If I'm wrong, he'll still be here when we've done this. Let me take you back to before we all met ... Feel around for anything that makes you what you are ... the hidden and the forgotten. Tell me where you are.”
Gwen remembers Rhys at college, Owen remembers his tenth birthday and probably the first time he realised that his mother hated him. Tosh remembers Math club, always having the right answer there.
For Ianto it is, “meeting Lisa.”
“Falling in love... “
“Never felt so alive.” From this we can realistically gather that Lisa was quite possibly the first time that Ianto fell in love.
