Oh wow. Thank you so much for that comment. I've been waiting to see if people like it or not, because this fic is a departure from what I normally write and also what is standard for fandom, where the relationship is the main focus. I wanted to try for more an episodic type story and Space Seed is one I have had in mind for a long time. The first time I wrote an action scene was for last years BB, so it seemed fitting to aim for action again with this years.
We debated wether to include the pairings in the header as people might expect a relationship fic, when in reality this is kinda more gen with background relationships, but I know that people don't like to be surprised, so err on the side of caution.
Ahh Marla, yes, I adore TOS as well but keep in mind the sensibilities of the time when watching it. I was angry when I saw that Star Trek magazine had include Khan and Marla as one of the epic love stories of Trek. Even considering the sensibilities of the time, all I could see was an abusive and controlling relationship. With a much younger and inexperienced Marla, but also the knowledge of Nero etc, she would be different. I also knew that she needed to have been 'controlled' a little in her short life in order to act the way she would. Early on I knew she was going to die and I didn't want it to be the trope of someone who made the mistake and realized it and then fixed it. She saves the ship and doesn't know, which I hope made her journey more real.
Again thank you for the in depth comment and I am so glad you enjoyed the story. If you get a chance, check out the fanmix, it is just too perfect to match. So pleased with my art too :D
