it's been such a long time since i've logged into this and written in it but... oh my! i had such a ridiculously awesome weekend! i have to get this down somewhere before i forget.
langerado!
saturday evening molly and i drove down to coral springs. we had really good car conversation. we have a lot in common.
leslie had to work that night and was still there by the time we got in. mols and i saw a fair going on as we were driving on the sawgrass expressway so we decided to hang out at the fair until leslie got off. it was a good size fair and it was a pleasant surprise to starting of our time in sofla. all of the lights and people and such fascinated me.
oh my! i don't even know where to start about langerado.
amanda met us at leslie's house so we wouldn't have trouble finding each other at the park. leslie and molly rode together and i rode with amanda. we were kind of iffy on the directions so as we were driving i decided to call my friend james who had been at the festival all weekend. he didn't want to tell me the wrong directions so he handed the phone to his friend sean of mobella! i know sean of mobella! what a small world! so cool!
we get to to the festival and there is such an interesting mix of people. a lot of hippies. i'm a gypsy at heart i believe so i think i fit in well. as we walked in there were people playing bongo drums and chanting some sort of save the earth sort of thing. there were tons of hippie/rasta venders there. the stages and structures were all rather artistic. and everything... there was just so much to take in.
we started walking around looking at the various things being sold by the various venders. leslie bought a couple of braclets from a rasta vendor who pulled me in for a 20 minutes conversation. he asked if any of us sang and of course leslie had to say i did. and the guy kept on trying to get me to sing. he wanted me to join this music group of sorts that he was trying to get together. it was very strange. he wanted to give me his information to get in touch with him about collaborating. he still hasn't heard me sing but he was pretty determined that i might be the right person for his band. i was finally able to get away. as i was leaving he said "alright. gimme a hug my queen." lol
first bands we saw was pepper. i found them enjoyable. this is where we encountered the first subjects of my polaroids. lol. i think i'm in about 4 of their pictures as well. hahaha.... they were handing out lollipops which considering where we were it was rather questionable.
we met up with james. he hooked us up with free water from the media tent.
went to find a skirt for leslie and molly to wear as they were in jeans and therefore hot.
got food. had a paninni.
sat down for awhile and listened to taj mahal play on the sunset stage.
then we made our way to the swamp tent. there was a gospel sort of band playing.
went back to the sunset stage where los lobos were playing.
leslie had to go into work. =(
saw cat power in the swamp tent... the first of the artists that i really wanted to see while i was there. i love her voice. she's like a feist but more blues-y. i love her mannerisms. she's just so cute. she covered gnarls barkley's crazy and that made me really happy.
after cat power we decided to just chill and kinda stretch and get the circulation going again. we wanted to wait around for explosions in the sky so we would be in the front when they played. i don't know that i can even begin to describe how amazing they are. they opened with "first breath after coma" and i seriously wanted to cry. it was so awesome. feeling the vibrations of the music running through your body... wow! they're music is just so beautiful and watching them perform it and how much it means to them was even more beautiful! really... i don't think i can communicate how good they are live. i took a little bit of video as they were playing "your hand in mine" (my favorite eits song) but even through video... you can't really relay how beautiful and awesome it was!
after etis girl talk played his laptop. he is ridiculous. it was so much fun dancing, watching him dance, watching other people dance. oh man... he was so good. so much fun.
in between girl talk and the new pornographers some random guy just walked up to me and kissed me on the chick. it was one of those, did that really just happen moments. haha... we only stayed for half the new pornographers set. both amanda and i got to hear the songs we wanted to hear. unfortunately though, mols and i had to drive back to gville that night and amanda had a test to study for.
it took us a few minutes to find her car. people were asking us if we had any drugs we could sell them. and then there was some guy who was selling drugs. apparently thing he had anything you wanted. just not weed. and only opium? ha...
we made it to the car okay.
the drive back wasn't bad at all. we met some other people coming from the festival at a rest stop. i got an offer to live with the guy making my coffee. oh the people i met!
it was one of the greatest days i've had in a long time.
this morning my body is sore and i felt a little sick... like i have toxins in me sick. i think through osmosis all of that drug usage affected me. i almost threw up when i woke up but after that ordeal i'm feeling better.
now i'm off to drive home to the fort. i don't care if the rest of my break is boring. because this weekend was amazing.
