Ooo-oo-ooo-oo-ooooh -- is in conTROL!
Man, I missed this. We sang a song I remembered ("God is in Control") in gospel choir tonight and I totally got into it. I had goosebumps while we were singing a new one. Completely into it, voice, mind, body - it was incredible. I love when I get goosebumps.
Plus, I made a friend! I sat next to the same girl as last time and we chatted the whole way through. It's so nice to have someone to talk with during all those 60-second breaks we inevitably end up having. We're going to try to go see the Collegiate A Cappella competition together in a few weeks.
Someone brought Rice Krispie treats for after rehearsal, and I signed up to help make a website for the group. They even gave us CDs of their songs from the fall! I am SO grateful. I never wrote down the names and arrangers of any of the songs we did back in sophomore year, so they were all lost to me. I am ripping the CD to my hard drive as I type *g*
The only thing I would wish differently for the group is how much more Jesus-oriented it is now. We have little verses to pray on at the beginning of rehearsal, and a big prayer circle and mini-sermon at the end. I know it's their perogative and they're donating their time and all, but I'm really not religious in that way. I come to gospel choir for spirituality, yes, but not the whole, "Satan is trying to ruin your life" deal. I guess I'll just have to get used to it.
My Culture Industries class today was awesome, though. I felt like such a grad student - a real one. We discussed and debated the readings, and I was completely into it. Only a few wanderings-off of my brain this time! Plus, we watched our first "films" in Production today, and mine came out wonderfully. My f-stops are the bomb, yo.
Question for the LJ-ers out there: Did any of you attend Northwestern University in Chicago? My new friend has been accepted into a grad program there, but she'd like to talk to some students (current or former) to get a feel for the place before she visits. I know my f-list was unbelievably helpful when I was going through this, so I'm betting there must be at least one of you out there who could email with her a bit.
