In the Beginning [of my paper]

Dec 10, 2004 18:35

4:44 pm - Hee.  "Individuals [in cyberspace] appear to enjoy relating narratives to those they have never met and probably never will meet" (Mark Poster, Postmodern Virtualities)  What a revelation!  Next thing you know, those stories will star television characters!

4:49 pm - I've now typed up three and a half pages of quotes from first reading.  Perhaps am delving a bit too deep?

5:09 pm - Okay, brief Net break.  I just took this quiz, linked to by mona_1347.  You must take it as well.  So.  Funny.

5:26 pm - "Television today has a social function similar to the weather.  No one takes responsibility for it, often it is bad, but nearly everyone pays attention to it and sees it as a basis of common experience and a source of topics of conversation" (Joshua Meyrowitz, No Sense of Place)

5:27 pm - Does anyone else hear the name "Joshua" as "Josh-wah", in Jennifer Aniston's voice?

5:50 pm - So, I've called Domino's to order the pizza for tonight.  I told them I had a gift certificate for a free pizza.  The guy confirmed that he understood, told me my total was $1.07, and hung up.  Am I mis-understanding the words "one free pizza"?  Assuming that this delightful charge is tax, why am I paying $1.07 tax on a $0 purchase?  Considering that the certificate was in response to an earlier unpleasant experience with Domino's, I'm less than pleased.

5:58 pm - Why would I highlight that?  What does that sentence even mean?  What was this guy smoking??
