I posted a while back in my "main" LJ about a friend who was going through a very difficult time, and needed prayers or postive thoughts or whatever you could spare. As you've probably read elsewhere by now, the friend of previous posts needing your prayers is my dear friend, Joyce Wolf. Some of you know her as Blue Wolf, Joyce, or simply as the woman who put Fondation MIRA on the LFN map.
Joyce was diagnosed in March with colon cancer, followed immediately by surgery to remove the cancerous tissue. Ever since then, the ride has been rocky; and almost always down hill.
Another dear friend, Loveroy, has written a tribute to Joyce, which has been placed on several message boards and in email groups across the fandom. In an attempt to get the word out there, and with her permission, I quote her now:
Our beloved bluewolf is yet again in the hospital. For those of you who are newbies to the LFN fandom let me enlighten you on who our remarkable Joyce really is. Joyce is a wife, mother, grandmother, humanitarian, friend, teacher, and all around amazing human being. For many years Joyce brought us the fabulous, always rewarding and life-altering Mira fund raisers. She dedicated herself to providing us the opportunity to bask in the whole Montreal experience; because of her we met Roy Dupuis in person and learned about the amazing organization that he supported until last year. Of course even before that she practically, since she was on the Committee for all four cons, fashioned the LFN fandom and to this day Joyce is still a DON (defender of Nikita). I recall even before my first Mira Event and Defi Vision race, reading about the fun at the Cons and bluewolf’s name was always associated to the Cons’ fun adventures.
I also remember reading of other fans with cancer scares that Joyce helped through her compassion and focused determination. Now it is Joyce who is again facing the very difficult path of cancer related health problems and given that her strength was already depleted for various reasons before her diagnosis, it is a tribute to her strength of character that she is “…still standing after all this time…” (Quoting Elton John). Joyce is in a hospital in California, next to her incredible husband Tom, while her daughter Megan and granddaughter Ally stay at home. I spoke yesterday afternoon with her and she is in pain, but in good spirits. She is expected to leave the hospital in a couple of weeks - some of us will be seeing her in October and she needs to look spectacular as always by then.
To ask that you pray for her would be patently obvious, to hope that you send good thoughts her way again would be self-evident and to expect that you wish her the best would be ridiculously apparent. So may I propose that you post here your good wishes for our friend Joyce and I can assure you that one of us or Tom or Megan will get the posts to her. You can also email us and we will let Joyce know how much she is truly loved and respected.
