“Ma'am? S-should I call an ambulance?”
Disclaimer: Own nothing. Only ideas. ^__^
Hyukjae didn't know how he ended up in the backseat of Heechul's car. Or how he even managed to get out of town in one piece and not being eaten alive by vicious zombies.
Oh wait... he did know how he ended up in the backseat of that godforsaken car. Stupid zombies.
He'd just gone out to do some grocery shopping when he saw this old lady in the middle of the street, bleeding her guts out, literary. Hyukjae immediately got alarmed, as any normal citizen he walked a little closer to see if the lady was alright.
“Ma'am? Are you alright?”
Of course she isnt, pabo-Hyuk, he thought in panic. He'd never faced an situation like this so he didn't really know what to do.
“Ma'am?”
Oh God... she's alive?!
The old lady got up from the street, picked up the inner body parts that had fallen out and stuffed them back into her open wound rather messily. Hyukjae gulped down the rising bile... that was positively the most disgusting thing he'd ever seen before.
“Ma'am? S-should I call an ambulance?” He almost gasped when he recognized the old woman. It was Mrs. Shin, from a few blocks away from his apartment.
“Mrs. Shin? I... uh... you shouldn't get up... you're... falling apart...” He was panicking now. What was he supposed to do?! He didn't have to wonder long though when man came flying from out of nowhere. OK, maybe not flying... but he was darn fast anyway. Hyukjae barely had time to blink and Mrs. Shin was down again, shot dead, body parts falling off and all.
“What the fuck are you doing you idiot? RUN!”
“What?” He asked stupidly as the man turned around and yelled at him.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'WHAT'? YOU FUCKING IDIOT! RUN!”
The last thing he thought before he turned around to start running was: That guy was pretty. More than that he didn't have time to think as he ran, he heard gun shots ringing behind him, sometimes closer, sometimes not. He had no idea where he was heading as long as he put as much distance between himself and that pretty killing-machine.
He almost died of fright when he rounded a corner close to his old middle school and bumped straight into someone. This someone being a very handsome man. A handsome man without any body parts missing like many of the other handsome men he had passed on his race through the streets.
“Wow... calm down... are you alright?”
Hyukjae almost fainted as he saw how many guns the man was carrying. He knew getting out of bed this morning was a bad idea. He started to hyperventilate as the handsome man started to examine him to see if he was alright. He checked if all his body parts were intact, he checked his ears, his mouth and his eyes; he even pulled at his hair gently.
“What's your name?”
“Lee Hyukjae”
“How old are you?”
“23”
“My name is Lee Donghae... have you seen my friend Heechul by any chance?”
“Heechul?”
“He's really pretty, swears a lot...”
“Y-yes... I uhm... saw him a few moments ago.”
“Awesome, he must be on his way here then. Come with me.”
Hyukjae didn't have any time to protest as Donghae pulled him along with him down the street and pushed him into the backseat of a car.
“Are you hungry?”
“Not really...”
“First time seeing zombies?”
“uhm...” He nodded.
“Wow...”
“Uhm... Donghae... there's something very scary coming up behind you.”
“Oh... wait here. I'll be right back. Just make sure you're not seen.”
Hyukjae nodded and tried to stay hidden after Donghae closed the car door. He heard gun shots again, some yelling and then it went quiet for a few seconds. The car door opened again and Donghae was back.
“Buckle up your seatbelt Hyukjae... we're in for a bumpy ride. Heechul called, he found the grocery store.” Donghae smiled and closed the door again and got into the front seat and started the car.
Hyukjae didn't remember much of the rest that happened that day. Heechul and Donghae did some grocery 'shopping', shot down some more zombies and then Hyukjae fainted. He woke up as they had left the town long ago.
“Let's just dump him somewhere!”
“Hyung... he's the first non-infected human we've met since we separated from Siwon and Kibum.”
“He's useless. He's one of those good-for-nothing kind of guys.”
“You don't even know him.”
“He tried to fucking talk to a zombie. That's just stupid. He would've died if I didn't show up. Fucking idiot.”
“I knew her.” Hyukjae spoke up suddenly. “She used to make me chicken soup when I caught a cold.”
“Well... she's dead now.”
“Because you killed her.”
“Listen smarty-pants. She was already dead when you tried to fucking chit-chat with her. I just helped her to finally realize it, alright?”
“God Heechul... stop it.” Donghae spoke softly as he stopped the car and stepped out. “It's your turn to drive.”
Heechul's eyes narrowed slightly but he still stepped out and took Donghae's place in the drivers seat while Donghae got in the backseat beside Hyukjae.
“Now let me look at you. Are you hurt somewhere?”
“No... I'm alright.”
“Are you hungry?”
“I think I'll throw up if I eat.”
“You should eat.”
“Don't fucking throw up in my car!”
“He's not gonna throw up hyung, calm down. Here Hyukjae.” Donghae said and handed Hyukjae a chocolate bar. “Eat that and you'll feel better.”
Hyukjae did as he was told and he did indeed feel a bit better as he had finished the chocolate bar. Even if the visual image of Mrs. Shin did not disappear for a good while.
Hyukjae didn't know for how many days they traveled, but he was sure that they were close to Seoul. He did know though that Donghae took care of him and that Heechul did have a soft heart after all, despite the fact that he was a vicious zombie-killer. It took a week before Hyukjae had the guts to ask where they were going.
“China.”
“China? Why China?”
“Hyung's boyfriend lives in Beijing... so we're going there to pick him up.”
“A-are you sure he's alive? I mean... I wouldn't have made it if you didn't show up... W-what if he's not as lucky as I was.”
Heechul abruptly stopped the car and stepped out.
“Get out of the car.”
“What?”
“I said 'get out of the car' Hyukjae... if you value your life.”
Hyukjae hesitantly stepped out of the car. Heechul was scary.
“Listen to me now Hyukjae because I'm only going to tell you this once.”
Hyukjae nodded slowly.
“Hankyung's alive. He's not some stupid good-for-nothing like you. He knows how to look after himself, alright?”
Hyukjae nodded again.
“So I don't want you to say anything about things you know nothing of... just keep your mouth shut.”
Hyukjae nodded again.
“Alright... you can get back into the car.”
Hyukjae got back into the car beside Donghae in the backseat. Donghae didn't say anything he just wrapped his arms securely around the other and let him sleep there.
They didn't speak much until they got to Seoul. But when they finally reached Seoul, Heechul was in a better mood.
“I wonder if Siwon and Kibum got here in time...” Heechul murmured to himself as he sped through the once lively city. Though Seoul was particularly silent and dead. The only ‘people’ they saw were either living dead or already dead. Hyukjae had to turn away at the sight at the disgusting things he could witness. Why were zombies so gross? They were all kind of slimy and dirty. It was very depressing and Hyukjae stayed silent throughout the whole ride through the city. He hated this, why couldn’t people turn back to normal again so he could have a normal life? He felt really depressed thinking that he might never be able to enjoy a sunny day at the beach without zombies involved. Donghae kept up a conversation with Heechul though. It seemed as if Heechul was in a good mood.
“I hope Siwon fixed us a boat. I don't want to drive the whole fucking way to China.”
“We should stop here and get something to eat.”
Hyukjae sighed. Getting something to eat was usually something already cooked or instant noodles. He would give anything for a home cooked meal right now.
“Don't worry Hyukjae... you'll get a proper meal when we reach China.” Heechul said. He was beaming at the moment. Hyukjae couldn't get why he was so freaking happy but he guessed it had something to do with them getting closer to China. Closer to Heechul's boyfriend. Oh God, this was just a stupid adventure. Hyukjae was certain that Heechul would risk both his and Donghae's life to get to his boyfriend... but at the same time... where else were they supposed to go? Hyukjae would've died if Donghae and Heechul didn't save him. He didn't know how to use a gun or drive a car. Hyukjae didn't know why Donghae had decided to go with Heechul though. And he really couldn't figure the other male out. Donghae was a mystery. He would do pretty well on his own... and still Hyukjae was happy that Donghae was there. It was a wonder that Donghae had not turned mad while dealing with Heechul on his own.
They stopped to eat. Nothing out of the ordinary happened though. Some zombies showed up. Heechul spent a good five minutes killing them in all kinds of amazing new ways. Hyukjae tried not to get scared. Donghae just continued to eat while Hyukjae felt like throwing up. God... he really shouldn't have gotten up from his bed that morning. Stupid life. Stupid zombies.
“It's alright Hyukkie~”
Hyukkie? Did Donghae just call him Hyukkie? There was only one person other than Donghae that used to call him that. He wondered if he would get to see him again, the only family he had left. His parents was long gone and had been dead and buried long before the zombie-invasion started anyway... and since Heechul and Donghae were the only living beings he had met since they left his hometown he was sure he would never be able to see his cousin again. He heaved a sigh.
“What is?”
“Hyukkie, don't worry... everything will get better as we get to China. Heechul will be easier to deal with as well as long as we get there.” Donghae beamed at him and pulled him into a warm hug. Hyukjae sighed and leaned into Donghae's embrace.
“If you say so.” Hyukjae felt defeated at the thought of his cousin. It was so very lonely knowing that he had no one left but Heechul and Donghae, two complete strangers. Well... not really... Donghae had practically spilled his whole life story throughout the long trip to Seoul (though not at the times when Heechul was angry). So Donghae was no stranger anymore. Heechul was still a mystery though.
Heechul informed them that Siwon had contacted him, telling him about his and Kibum's position.
“They have a boat that will take us to China.” Heechul smiled as he said it. A genuine smile. Not one of his crazy zombie-killing smiles. But a real smile.
Wow, hyung must really love this guy. Since when did I call Heechul "hyung''? Hyukjae thought for himself.
“And Siwon said that they had found a survivor, just like we did.” Heechul continued.
“Really? That's great!”
“Yeah... apparently he's an awesome shooter, if one should listen to Kibum.” Heechul said this with a snort. He was not pleased with the fact that this new guy could possibly rival his position as the pro-zombie-killer-of-awesomeness. Hyukjae couldn't care less.
It took three days for them to leave Seoul and reach Siwon and Kibum and the new guy they had brought with them and when they got there Hyukjae was surprised as he saw who the stranger was.
“SUNGMIN-HYUNG!”
“HYUKKIE!”
Hyukjae threw himself out of the car and launched himself at his cousin. He started crying out of pure joy. He'd missed him so much and had thought that he would never see him again.
“Oh my sweet Hyukkie, I was so worried about you... I was about to go and look for you but then I met Siwon and Kibum and they brought me here instead.”
“Not without protests of course...” A tall guy spoke softly from Sungmin's side. Sungmin glared a bit at him.
“Oh... by the way... this is Siwon... and I think Kibum is in that tent over there... doing some scientific experiments...” Sungmin continued. Hyukjae was still attached to him with his arms around his waist and he was not about to let go very soon. Just being around someone familiar to him calmed him down. Sungmin's familiar scent made him smile. Sungmin always smelled of cookies somehow and he still did even though there was a severe zombie invasion.
“Hyung... Heechul said you're an excellent shooter.”
“Well... I am...”
“Really?”
“I didn't even know that myself... but Siwon is an excellent teacher.”
“You taught him?!” Heechul butted in and groaned as Siwon nodded. “Why did you do that?”
“Kibum is a great scientist... but he can't shoot a moving target. This also means that he’s useless when it comes to zombie-killing, sadly. And I had to keep Sungminnie occupied so he wouldn't think too much of unnecessary things.”
Sungmin just rolled his eyes at Siwon and wrapped his arms around Hyukjae.
“Whatever Siwon.” He muttered.
Hyukjae felt a lot better as he could stay around Sungmin as they prepared their 'ship' that would take them across the Yellow Sea to China. Hyukjae rarely saw Kibum since he was busy with his experiments and he didn't see any zombies for three days. Heechul was getting impatient and wanted leave as soon as possible while Siwon told him to be patient because if they rushed they could die at sea.
Donghae was avoiding Hyukjae though, something that said boy did not like at all. He couldn't figure out why he was avoiding him though. Donghae spent almost all his time assisting Kibum and if he was not with Kibum he would be sleeping or staying away from Hyukjae. If Hyukjae tried to talk to him Donghae would excuse himself saying that he was tired or busy and then he would leave. Then Hyukjae would pout and go to cling onto Sungmin, whine a bit and sometimes cry. It was so very lonely. Or maybe not. There were now five people around him all the time, but all of them were busy and the one who would always make time for him before was ignoring him. Not even Sungmin had time to take care of him as he, Siwon and Heechul was making plans of how they would make it from the shore to Beijing. They couldn't bring the cars. Eventually they decided to try and travel up the river to reach Beijing. Hyukjae didn't really like the idea of traveling on water, he would rather go by car, but he knew that Heechul wanted to get to Beijing as soon as possible so he didn't say anything.
They left on the fourth day. Donghae still didn't speak a word to Hyukjae. Heechul told him that the boy was just jealous and stubborn.
Why would he be jealous though?
The ship was not really a ship... it was more like a small boat... but it was alright. They could still sleep under the deck and all the food and weapons did fit into the few spaces there was to pack stuff in. They even had beds so Hyukjae didn't complain. Though... he did not like to travel at sea so he got awfully sick and threw up all over the place, pissing Heechul off and worrying Sungmin.
“Don't be mad at him Heechul. He can't help it... he’s been like this since he was a kid. Just forcing him to travel like this makes me feel bad... I can only imagine what he's feeling right now.”
“What do you mean?”
“His parents... they drowned when Hyukjae was five. Since then he's been afraid of water.”
The boat was small so Hyukjae could hear them clearly. But somehow he was happy that Sungmin told them even though the memory still haunted him. Heechul was gentler with him after that and they all took turns to stay at his side, even Kibum did, he even talked to him, telling him about his many experiments. But Donghae was avoiding him still and refused to stay at his side.
“Why is he avoiding me?” He asked Heechul one day. He was feeling a bit better and Heechul was in a good mood since they would reach Beijing very soon.
“He feels stupid.”
“Stupid? Why?”
“He thinks that you and Sungmin are an item...”
“Item?”
“A couple.”
Hyukjae couldn't help but laugh at that. Heechul stared at him, surprised.
“That is the most stupid thing I've ever heard. Sungmin-hyung is my cousin.”
“He... is your cousin?”
“Yes. He's the only relative I have left in this world so of course I'm very close to him.”
“Hae will be happy to hear that...”
“I guess.... wait... was he jealous?”
Heechul laughed and nodded.
“I swear... if looks could kill, Sungmin would be dead a thousand times over. Donghae is very possessive when it comes to you Hyukjae. He likes you more then he would like to admit.”
“Hyuuuuuung... did you have to say that?”
Hyukjae and Heechul looked up to see Donghae standing there, looking very embarrassed and a bit flustered. Hyukjae smiled at him and pulled him into a hug when Heechul had pushed Donghae over to Hyukjae's small bed and left.
Hyukjae and Donghae shared that cramped space the rest of the trip to Beijing, though Heechul made sure that there was no dirty business going on there, he even threatened to throw Donghae off the ship. Sungmin told them that kissing was alright. Kibum ignored them and continued with his many experiments or reading and Siwon just shrugged.
They finally reached Beijing and Hyukjae felt relieved as he could step on solid ground again. The situation in the city was as bad as in Seoul and even though he didn't want to show it to the others, Heechul was worried.
“So... how do we find Hankyung-hyung here?” Siwon asked Heechul as they went looking for a car. Heechul looked like he was thinking for a while before he answered.
“Let's start at his house. I know where it is... if I know Hannie right he would've left a message for me there.”
They found a proper car, stuffed all their things in the trunk along with Kibum's experiments and they were off. Kibum said that he hoped that Heechul's boyfriend had a proper lab for him set up already for him to use. Heechul didn't answer to that.
It didn't take long for them to find Hankyung's house. It was the top apartment of a dumpling-shop.
“Before the invasion... Hankyung used to treat me dumplings... or his fried rice.” Heechul told Hyukjae as they made their way to the apartment. There was no one there... but Heechul did know his boyfriend right, there was a message for him there.
“Stupid Hannie always forgets that I don't speak Chinese...” Heechul muttered as he stared at the message in his hand.
“Don't worry hyung... I think I can read it...” Siwon said as snatched the note out of Heechul's hand. After staring at the note for a while he told Heechul what it said.
“He says that he's staying with someone named Kui Xian and Zhou Mi.”
“Of course! Zhou Mi's apartment!” Heechul exclaimed. “It's probably the best spot for them, why didn't I think of that?”
Heechul darted out of the apartment and the few zombies that stood in his way to the car were killed without an effort. Hyukjae stuck to Sungmin's and Donghae's sides so he wouldn't get killed.
The ride to Zhou Mi's apartment took hours. The view outside the car was depressing; the only thing they saw was zombies, destroyed buildings and military vehicles. Heechul was humming songs as he drove through the streets. Sungmin fell asleep on Siwon's shoulder. Kibum was reading and Hyukjae was bored.
“Donghae... I'm bored.”
“We're almost there...” Donghae said silently and kissed him softly. Hyukjae blushed and continued to stare out the window.
When they finally reached the apartment complex where this Zhou Mi person lived there was a new problem for them to solve. How were they supposed to get in? The entrance was blocked from the inside and there was no visible way to get inside.
“Aish... this man knows how to make things impossible.” Heechul muttered as they stepped inside the car again to think of something to do. Sungmin was still asleep and Kibum looked like he was in deep thought.
“Hyung... we could always use the things I made...” Kibum said and he was all smiles as he turned to Heechul. Heechul smacked him upon his head.
“Idiot, and blow up the whole building, no thanks... my boyfriend is inside.”
Kibum looked a bit disappointed to hear that, but didn’t say anything. Heechul and Siwon was discussing what they were supposed to do. They concluded that finding a ladder would be a great idea so they would be able to break in through a window since all the entrances was blocked on the lower floors.
“Did he really have to block the whole fucking building so I can’t get to him… stupid Chinese man, I don’t even know why I’m still engaged to him.”
“Aw Chullie, you’re hurting my feelings.” A amused voice came from behind them. A voice with a heavy accented Korean.
“Hankyung?!” Heechul turned around fast and at the sight of the Chinese man he almost squealed in delight. In the matter of seconds they were engaged in a make-out session that made Siwon cover Kibum’s eyes and Donghae stare in awe.
“Well then… we successfully delivered Heechul to Hankyung… now what?”

Now what?
Give me ideas of how to continue this, yes?
Alright... there's been so much zombies in my mind lately that I couldn't help but write this. It's... totally weird... and I'm sorry for making Hyukkie a bit lame and for not giving vivid describtions of zombies. XD I know you want them, lol.
There was supposed to be a lot more of Kyuhyun and Zhou Mi in this as well... but it was not included.
