Clever Maids: The Secret History of The Grimm Fairy Tales by Valerie Paradiz
I saw this book in the library that I go too & was quickly drawn too it & I've never read the the Grimm Fairy Tales, though I plan on doing so. When I read this book though, it was really nice, & truthful. The book shows the ways that the Grimm Brothers came upon the stories that they added to the book. The authoress shows that the idea of wondering Grimm Brothers wasn't completely true, but that the majority of the stories within the book were transcribed from women of the Grimm Brothers time. The book tells you of the women that shared their fairy tale stories with the Brothers Grimm & also shares some of the Grimm Brothers tales that they gathered from the women who helped them in their quest of finding German fairy tales to bring together their German people. I really liked this book with its history, truth, woman, correspondences, excerpts of the tales they told, & just in showing how the women helped give the Grimm Brothers their fame & devotions.
