Well I finally have decided that I have a live journal I should probablly use it!! Its just sitting here being empty!! So anyways, in the life of Niki, nothing tooo exciting. Student teaching is going great. I love working in the 1st grade classroom. My supervising teacher is wonderful, I really lucked out with her. I love the school, and the kids are great. I really couldnt have asked for a better placement. There is a lot that goes on in such a small school though, being inner city I have seen a lot. I have had kids leave the school because parents were living outside of the city which is illegal, I have abused children and neglected children picked up by DSS services, and I have had a child mention that she is being sexually abused and having a counselor take over. All of these things I have seen since January 17th when I started. It really is emotionally binding, you want to fix these kids problems and make them not hurt anymore. I think that is going to be the worst part of being a teacher, not the lesson plans and the grading but the home lives and the pain.
On another note, work is going well, still cracking along 4-7 every night and every weekend to make ends meet. Sean was working at Rain but that just wasnt working out, the money is not worth the time and effot thats going into the job. He was too stressed with the hours and for the amount in return it wasnt enough. So this was his last weekend there. Hes been doing well at Big Y though with the new full time position, still loss prevention just full time now with full benefits, something he desperatly needed. So now maybe his wisdom teeth can be taken care of and his blood pressure medication can be filled and controlled. Being without insurance for him was not a good thing, you cant mess around with blood pressure like that! I cant' believe that his father didnt send the form to have him on his insurance and as of right now hes still not and its inbetween Big Y and his Dad's so still nothing for him for a few more weeks. He really cant seem to catch a break.
Taxes came in thank God, and really helped us get out of a hole. Seans grandparents and Uncle came through helping us fix the truck and get tires, which was wonderful. Im glad that they finally stepped up to the plate and did something for him. I knew that they eventually would. Still waiting for the check from Plymouth Rock though so we can get the official payment done. FINALLY!!!
This weekend was long, I worked all day every day including today, only we are here until 1:00 so thats not bad. Im going to go home and surprise my Mom with my presence, so that should be good! Im glad that we are on Feb. vacation too! No school this week. Away from the classroom, I can work on my portfolio more and get some narratives written, thats my goal anyways! We will see what happens.
Enough rambling out of me! I wanted to update you all on my life!! Write again soon!!!
