And there I thought you were kidding in your comment to On Some Idle Tuesday about your "Oh shit, don't die" feelings when Emily goes anywhere.
Emily's thoughts on intimacy and the general reciprocal nature of touch are complex but well-written, and I sympathise for her trying to explain to a confused Jennifer. Also, just generally for Jennifer, whose 'big sister' is being hated for reasons she doesn't understand. At least our girl has someone on her side. One thing that interests me about your Emily is how she [unlike her mother ] hasn't put up much of a fight against mutants, instead being labelled a 'Communist traitor', because canon Emily seems like more of a fighter. But you don't stray completely from that, instead letting her pride and fighter's spirit manifest in her refusal to feel ashamed for [repeatedly] doing Emma. And of course, the vindictive pleasure she gets from leaving Emma a 'whimpering mess'.
Compared some of these scenes to the original FE1: Queen Emma. In there, Emma has to think for Emily's name when asking her to bear a child, which is odd considering how Emma tends to specifically call Emily into her chambers. Unless she asks for 'Moscow', or 'the skinny brunette. You know the one' or something. Plus Emily's reputation with the slaves here mirrors the situation after she marries Emma, although she doesn't mention it. Also, Emily seems more confident in Queen Emma, but I suppose that's a few years down the line.
Anyway: great chapter! Emily's notebooks are brilliant, and I'd love to see some more scenes with the other agents - uh, slaves. For example, I don't think Aaron and Penelope would be that harsh on Emily. Can't wait for more!
Nope, not kidding at all. I love to torture Emily, often literally. She does look so pretty with blood on her face... (um...)
That is one of the main differences between canon!Emily and other!Emily. Emily in canon has learned how to *act*. She doesn't believe that what she does is futile, but this Emily learned about the futility of resistance at a young age, and then had all her ability to act heavily curtailed for many years afterwards. if she manages to break out of the mental cage she's locked herself in, there will be a story that goes past the ending of Queen Emma. :)
Consider this a revision of QE as well as a retelling. A lot of the ideas and themes will show up, but the scenes probably won't be exactly the same. But Emma most definitely does not ask for 'Emily' when she wants sex. No one would know who she meant!
I'm glad you like it! Comments make me so happy. And contextualizing with my other stories = Awesome!
Aaron has a bit more of a role in the next one, but don't forget, Penelope wouldn't be a slave, she's a mutant. :) Doña Garcia, ne?
Oh, hey, can't fault you there - Emily is a BEAST when she bleeds. Why else have I now rewatched that scene in Minimal Loss for so long that I could choreograph the whole thing? ...you and I are going straight to hell. But I suspect that you'll be allowed to bring a fan.
Ooh, now you HAVE to have some Garcia. I'm suddenly fascinated to see how she is in a position of superiority, and so you must write it in. I have this image of her being that annoyingly cheery friend Emma doesn't know why she tolerates, but that would depend on Penelope's rank in the mutant world, as well as her geographical location. And whether she's part of the oppressive mutant regime or off doing some Oscar Schindler thing... which is an image I suddenly cannot get out of my head.
Yes, I am quite the fangirl for you, albeit in a less creepy way. By the way, if you do consider incorporating the rest of the BAU crew into this story a little more, would you ever want to get other characters into it, such as Jordan [I admit it. Emily/Jordan is coming close to being my Criminal Minds OTP], Gideon or Elle? An Elle-Emily scene suddenly seems very tempting too.
I should really stop making suggestions - you're really fun to discuss your work with, but I suppose you've already got the whole thing planned out. Anyway, cheers again on another brilliant chapter, and I hope for another one soon. Here's to season 5 showing us more hot, heroically bloodied Prentiss.
Planned out? Not so much, i'm afraid. I have some idea of various *major plot points* but i'm pretty sure you know what most of them are. Sometimes writing is a bit like feeling around in the dark. You either find a lightswitch and can see what's right in front of you, or you fall over the coffee table.
With Garcia, it's like: i know she's in the room, but i haven't found the switch yet, or tripped over her. The Schindler idea... very interesting. i may have to consider that.
As for the other BAU members... there's only so many of them that Emma can own without it being slightly implausible. then i have to de-age them 20 years or so, figure out where they were at that point in their lives, and whether or not they survived the purges, how on earth they got to Genosha... well, never say never. :)
(Actually, when you mentioned Elle, i just saw her stalking right through my little apocalyptic universe and on to the screen. This world is so psychotic.)
Now i feel like i need to make a bloody!Emily icon. Mmmm.
