I actually did something today. While being down in Cornwall this holiday, something not involving family [which happened on Christmas day, to be fair, and was quite nice] or going shopping with mother [which has only happened once]. And not involving being ill or playing various computer games at home, or watching Season 1 of DH [which I've now finished, having given it to my mother for Christmas].
Yes, I went out and had lunch with 15 other people - friends from Falmouth School [which I stopped attending in 2001] and their various boyfriends/girlfriends. It was actually really really nice - even if my stomach was still a bit temperamental after the day before yesterday, which I spent basically throwing up or sleeping.
Of course, of the 15 I din't know 3 [some of the aforementioned boyfriends/girlfriends], vaguely knew 1, hadn't seen 1 for about 3 1/2 years, was on barely-speaking terms with one, have barely kept in touch with five and was actually really looking forward to seeing four; but it was a great afternoon anyway. And not just because I hadn't been out of the house for 4 days and hadn't seen anyone beside friends and family since leaving London on the 20th.
For starters, the barely-speaking-terms friend was actually surprisingly nice to me [well, he did end up sitting opposite me...], which would've probably made the whole afternoon worthwhile. But what made it truly great was the fact that I've been asked to co-act as best man at the wedding of two of the aforementioned four people, which is happening in exactly 9 months, exactly 5 years after they first talked to each other. 'Co-act' as they're only asking me because the actual best man [i.e. the groom's best friend] is apparently useless and Jenna doesn't want to trust him with the ring; but it's an honour anyway - and apparently I can co-write the speech, too... :) :) :)
Of course, it's also a little scary - not just the 5 years part [they'd agreed to 'go out' with each other the first time they spoke - over the phone - and haven't been apart since], but just the fact that I'm actually going to a friend's wedding. The wedding of someone I once went to school with.
Sure, we've all known that Jenna and Alex were getting married, they've been planning it for about two years now. But it's actually happening - in 9 months!!!
:D
