I saw Hugo today. Absolutely wonderful movie.
I went into it knowing absolutely nothing about what the film was about, which turned out to be a good decision. The story turned out to be really fascinating and well-told, and I got really into it. The combination of the story and the characters seriously had me only the brink of tears at a few points. It was all just so beautiful and emotional.
Speaking of the characters, I grew to love all of them to an absolutely ridiculous extent, partially because all of them were extremely well-acted and partially because all of them were just extremely well-written characters. They all felt multidimensional: it becomes apparent that even the supposed goofy villain/comic relief guy isn't just an archetypal Butt Monkey, but an actual person with depth, and that made him much more likable and enjoyable. I totally have ships for this movie, too. Georges/Jeanne and Inspector/Lisette make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Also, there are puppies in this movie. That should be more than enough to convince everybody to go see it now.
