Memories: 2) Journey to the West
Currently watching the old classic from my childhood. Some kind soul has even taken the effort to sub it in english and up the episodes on youtube!^O^
This is my favourite episode, where he messed up the heaven and danced on the nose of those arrogant gods and the Jade Emperor.XDD
I just love this classic! The soundtrack, costumes and mask, not to mention the great acting are incomparable, even for today's adaptions with all their technics and CGI-effects. What this series lacks on visual effects it makes it up more than enough with superb acting and dedication (Liu Xiao Ling Tong, the Monkeyking actor, did all stunts himself, and he was a Martial artist and acrobat. From his voice to every little move, everything was like a real monkey).
The whole story is full of sarcasmn and critism to the hierarchical system (which is still present today IMO, though not in such extremity and that obvious) but in a very humorous way. And I certainly love Wukong, he gives a shit about rules, he is impulsive and mischivous, and if he sees injustice he steps in no matter with whom he's dealing (and IMO Liu Xiao Ling Tong made the most real (and prettiest) Monkey King ever!).
I've heard that CCTV is making a remake again, which will be the most expensive production up to date for a serie, even for US-standards.
The trailer looks pretty good and I'm expecting it to be more "demonic" and lesser humorous than the classic one. At least the Wukong-actor acts more like a monkey than Dicky Cheung, who is overrated in my eyes.
