S.T. Joshi once made the remark that Robert E. Howard studies/fandom is about twenty years behind Lovecraft studies/fandom in that the Howardians are still going nuts whenever anyone does a little biocrit or mentions Howard's racism or even points out that some of Howard's stuff wasn't so great.
Well, Jason Sanford sent me this link that says no more! Howard fandom has decided that twenty years is not enough! Let's go for fifty!
We expect you to accord Robert E. Howard the same respect as any other 20th century American author with continued and perennial popularity. No more back handed compliments. No more snide insinuations. No more rampant and irresponsible speculation with no basis of fact or evidence to bolster it. And for God’s Sake, no more “oedipal complex” crap, either. Those theories are thirty years out of date, and we are sick and tired of seeing it. Give us something new, or keep your parochial and backwards thinking to yourself.
PS: the are calling themselves the "S.H.I.E.L.D. W.A.L.L." They have code names! The whole thing really is a hoot to read. For fat girls, they don't sweat too much.
