Damn it all, Matt thought to himself after having to do what had to have been his thirty-fifth double-take. This vision was killing him. Overall, it wasn't too bad, but it was annoying to see everything in such a weird way. Still, it was worth it for what he'd asked for--his gun was amazing, and now he didn't have to worry about what to use against all of these zombies. He knew he had enough ammo for a long while, too.. And worse come to worse, he could always ask Endora for more, if the price was going to be so minor as seeing in infrared.

Having abandoned the use of his goggles, (not like his eyes weren't giving him a nice tint to the world already) and pulled them up to rest on the top of his head, he made his way to the meeting place. The fountain. To mean that Near who wasn't as nice and adorable as the other one, from their interactions so far. The other one was cool in his book, but he didn't know about this other guy.

Spotting the lump of white seated on the fountain, he raised a hand in a greeting, not really wanting to draw attention to the two of them. Not that the 'zombies' wandering around would do anything. Matt couldn't help but think they were fail zombies--real zombies would've eaten that big, juicy brain of Near's by now. "Yo."

Ah. Finally. Catching the raised hand out of the corner of his eye, Near raised his gaze to look at the older boy, a soft 'hello' following suit. Matt had certainly grown since the last time he'd seen him, but from the looks of it, aside from his height everything was pretty much the same. Same striped shirt and lazy stature...although there was something off about it. Matt's goggles were atop his head, his eyes actually presented to the world, which was...strange. Inwardly Near scoured his memories but not one could he recall having seen Matt without his goggles, or at least clearly.

How interesting. There certainly must've been a reason for it. The Matt he remembered wasn't exactly a fan of eye contact. A thin finger pointed up at his head.

"Your goggles."

Returning the finger to his hair he simply continued to stare up at Matt, not bothering to move from the fountain just yet.

ooc: Sorry for double post |D Made an error.

Following Near's hand, he raised his own gloved appendage to his head, touching at the goggles there. "Uh? Yeah. I.. Uh." He shrugged. Did it really matter if his sight was a little wacky right now? He didn't need to tell Near about it, did he? "I thought they'd throw off my aim in case I had to fire at something." It wasn't really a lie, since that was part of the reason why he had removed them.

"So. Chapel, right?"

The excuse seemed good enough and Near let it go at that, even if he didn't entirely buy it. Matt didn't need to give him a reason for his lack of goggles, just like Near didn't feel the need to explain the (hopefully unnoticeable) short grimace he made as he stood up, smoothing out his shirt with his free hand.

"Correct."

If Matt noticed, he obviously didn't care, because he didn't react. Instead, he reached up and brushed some of his own bangs aside, squinting the direction of the chapel. He hadn't been over there since seeing the huge monster statue, so, it would be interesting. He'd been laying low the back room of a convenience store since they'd gotten kicked out of the mansion. He'd barely talked to anyone since then, too.

Jerking his head in the direction of the chapel, he started walking, expecting Near to follow suit.

Lucky. The one word that came to mind as he followed obediently behind Matt, a little slow at first until he was forced to hobble a bit faster, the two now side by side. Yes Near was quite lucky Matt knew the way, he himself certainly didn't have a clue, and while all of this was fine and dandy, there was one simple drawback.

Near wasn't wearing any shoes.

He would've if he had any - he wasn't exactly out to torture himself - but the fact of the matter remained that he was shoeless, and the ground below wasn't exactly pleasant to walk on in his socks.

Mello would surely scold him later.

After a few moments he stopped and looked back over his shoulder at the smaller male following behind him. He'd thought he saw some earlier, but.. A quick scan of his attire before.. Nope. No shoes.

Well, fuck.

He glanced around the town idly--was there a shoe store or something? He didn't really know. They didn't really have time either. He didn't want to, but...

Well, he felt kinda guilty, and, for some reason he felt bad about it, and if Mello found out he was letting Near wander around in socks he'd probably kill him (he imagined he would, at least), so, placing a hand on Near's shoulder and lifting a leg, he started undoing the laces on a boot, sliding it off and dropping it to the ground before switching and doing the same with the other. He lifted the both of them and deposited them into Near's arms.

"Put 'em on."

The hand on his shoulder froze Near mid step, the genius' back tensing as he whipped his head around, staring at Matt oddly as the boy undid his boots. Soon after he found the boots in his arms, not really sure of what to make of the situation.

Waiting a few seconds before moving to put the boots on, Near slipped one foot inside, and then it's pair, struggling slightly to tie up the oversized foot apparel. It was odd, and Near was certain it looked even odder.

"...Thank you."

It was weird that Matt would do such a thing - unless he was scared of what Mello would do if Near ended up harmed. No matter...

A look was tossed up at the overcast sky, a finger toying with a ringlet of white.

"Matt. Change of plans." It wasn't too late, but if it had already taken them this long to situate themselves there was no point going out of their way to grab his lesser than ample twin.

"We'll go to the theatre alone. Without my twin."

Matt watched at the smaller boy put on his boots. When he righted himself, he couldn't stop a smirk--oh God, that was hilarious. The look of him in those boots, at least 3 sizes too big, halfway up his leg.. He looked ridiculous. A pair of socked feet flexed against the dusty ground they were resting on.

"Wait, you mean.. You don't want to go to the chapel, then. To get the little guy." He sighed, moving infrared vision back over the layout of the land, then back down to Near, who was more of a light reddish color now than his usual white. "Yeah, I guess. Theatre then, right?"

"Correct." He shuffled - well, moved to. Which didn't work out all that well. Near certainly wasn't used to wearing shoes, let alone boots that were three sizes too big. So he lifted his feet, grudgingly beginning to march beside Matt as the two of them made it toward the theatre. It didn't take long really, and they arrived soon enough at the entrance.

A curious glance was cast into the empty, dusty ticket booth. There were still pamphlets taped up to the glass and the till seemed as if it hadn't been disturbed in ages.

Which it probably hadn't.

"I have...never been to a movie theatre before." He confessed offhandedly as the two of them breached the doors, the snack bar surprisingly operating. The quiet pop of popcorn reached his ears, the twisting of hair becoming a little more apparent.

"I wonder what shall be playing."

"Probably nothing good,, knowing this place." Matt groaned, letting Near lead the way, hand resting on his hip in case he needed to pull out his weapon quickly. He gave a glance at the snack bar, frowning. He couldn't imagine anything it was serving wouldn't be 100 years old or poisoned, or some kind of cocktail that would turn you into a rooster or a frog or an equally annoying animal.

"If you're not in the mood for chocolate-covered raisins, honey, we'd better get a move on before we miss the previews."

Stomping into the dimly theatre Near moved to one of the middle rows, sitting right in the centre, Matt soon joining him on his left. It would be a lie if Near was to say he wasn't feeling the slightest bit apprehensive. The other Matt had seen his death on the big screen. As for what he would see, that would be known soon enough.

Settled, the lights dimmed to complete darkness, the sound of the projector above switching on signalled the start of their film. A cartoonish bag of popcorn danced on screen, a giant bottle of coke with eyelashes joining it until that cut out abruptly, the screen turning black.

"..."

An eerie stretch of silence cut through the theatre until the soft tinny sound of that began to play, Near's back stiffening at the sound. But it was soon replaced with something much more alarming.

"You know...When I ate chocolate for the first time ..."

No. No it couldn't be. Why would this of all things be playing?! The screen was still black. There was still time to get out of here --

"... it tasted odd ... but I knew immediately ..."

But Mello's voice continued to ring out, freezing him in place. He was too mortified to even attempt to glance at Matt as the screen started to change from black, fading into the scene he'd watched through many, many mirrors.

Thin legs pried apart, Mello leaning over him, his face turned away...

"N-Ngh!"

A recording of his own pained voice, as Mello claimed him, only to buckle over onto him, lips so close to his ear.

"...th-that I would crave it for the rest of my life..."

Where was Mello's gun when he needed it?

He'd settled into a chair beside Near, letting his legs fall out in front of him, lazily slinking down almost to where his entire face was inside the collar of his vest, peeking out over the fur collar with his bare eyes. Everything in the theater was just as red as the things outside. He was getting used to it, but it still drove him a little nuts.

Relaxing a little when he felt like maybe there was nothing to worry about here after all, he laughed bemusedly at the Popcorn/Soda dance before noticing Near's back stiffen at a sound on the screen. "Hey, you o--"

"You know, when I ate.."

Was that- Mello? But why? "What the cra--"

His jaw gaped when he the scene was revealed, and he shrieked, jumping up out of his chair and onto it as if it were a mouse running around on the floor. "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!"

...Matt's shock wasn't appreciated, but he couldn't be blamed. Near was disturbed himself, the memory certainly not one he wished to relive so vividly.

The sounds of their little romp continued to fill his ears as he tore his eyes away from the screen, hanging his head to shield his face. The Ringmaster was surely laughing now. There was no way to sugar coat it. Might as well be blunt.

"It's Mello and myself, engaging in sexual intercourse during the curse. I assure you that this is 80% more disturbing for me than it is for you."

"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! OF COURSE IT'S MORE DISTURBING FOR ME, I DIDN'T DO IT WITH MELLO AND--" After a moment he dropped back down into his seat, scrubbing at his eyes with his palms. "Wh-what the hell.. It's burned into my retinas, auugh.."

Giving a pained sigh, he shook his head. "I give up. This place is fucked. There's no denying it."

What a quaint way to put it.

Soon after Matt had settled back down in his seat the film stopped rolling, the screen falling black once more, the theatre filled with silence...only for Near to break it.

"I can assure you, he came onto me. It certainly wasn't the reverse."
