The NDP platform is completely unreasonable, it is pretty easy for them to have a high in the sky platform when there is no real chance that they will be forming a government, but if they were actually in power they, financially they would not be able to follow through with their promises. Not to even mention that if the NDP ever got in power, we could kiss our military goodbye, which would have a huge economic impact across the country, because so many people and industries rely on the forces to keep them in business, never mind that we would not be able to meet our obligations to NATO. The NDP make a good opposition party because the social justice issues they stand for, they can push to have policy affected, but if they were actually in government, they would make a mess of things, just like what happened in Ontario, when they made the mistake of electing the NDP as the provincial government.
I think that after such a long term of Liberal government it is time for a change, and I believe that the Conservative party can bring about the positive change that we need. They intend to strengthen our military, to strengthen our world position, and have an impact on global policies. They want to give tax breaks to middle and low income families, repair our relationship with the United States, and create opportunity for better trade relations. Stephen Harper is a brilliant policy analyst, people who really know him will testify to that. I agree he's not the greatest people person in the world, but at least he has recognized this as one of his weaker points and he has been trying to improve his image and one to one relationships with people. The hogwash that the media and Liberal party have been trying to spread that he will turn Canada into the United States, or send us to Iraq, is just that, hogwash. It is just scare tactics to try to get people not to vote Conservative. Because Harper came from the Reform side of the Alliance, the media was against him without even giving him a chance. Now that they have had some time to see him in action in parliament they realize their initial beliefs about him were untrue, and now much media are writing positive things about him, except of course here in the Atlantic Provinces, where we tend to stick to old fears in spite of what reality tells us. Stephen Harper recognizes that trade between Canada and the United States is vital to our economy and he knows the relationship MUST be repaired. This is no way means that he will turn us into the United States. Stephen Harper wants to strengthen our military because a strong military is good for the Canadian economy and he wants to play a greater role in NATO PEACEKEEPING efforts. He will not be sending us all to Iraq, that's foolishness, anyone who knows anything about our current military status knows that we could not send troops to Iraq, we do not have the personnel or the equipment to be of any aid in that situation. Canada's military is very good in peacekeeping missions and humanitarian settings. Stephen Harper wants to make us better at those things.
It's time for a change; no government should be in power for the amount of years that the Liberals have been in power. They get overconfident and cocky, and that's when they start doing things like the Sponsorship scandal. It's time for a change, and unless you want that change to mean our country falling about, it's time to vote Conservative.
