The First Day: Sunday, August 8, 2004
We left New York City at like 6 am. Crazy shit man. That was soooo damn early. But we got there at like 12 or 1. Then we got to know our trip leaders- Greg and Jen. First impressions of them: was that they were extremely nice and fun people. Good thing. We played a name game, did the swim test, which was the easiest thing in the world, she said i swam fast, o well. Anyway, I found out she was a soph in college, going to a hippie school wants to be a bio major. Whatever...not important. We took the kayaks out on the water....and we practiced getting back on them if we should ever flip the kayak in the ocean. Well...i got in on my 1st try and i was doing fine, but when i go to reach for the pump...splash my kayak flips again. Now there is even more water in my kayak...and I have the hardest time getting in. Then when i go to put my paddle down in the back..a piece of my skin gets caught between the paddle and the kayak..and I had a huge bump bruise-that was a million different colors and that hurt like a bitch. I still have it too.. Then we ate dinner, played frisbee and then slept. O man!! It was fun but tiring day.
The Second Day: Monday, August 9, 2004
We woke up damn early again- 7 am. We loaded everything, ate breakfast and went on a long car ride to Casco Bay in Maine. We were in NEw Hampshire. The car ride was great...slept a little, talked, ate...and everything. Then we got to Lookout Point in harpswell, Maine. Thats where we left off. I loaded the kayak and we took off. It took me a while to put my spray skirt on but w/e. This first day we were going to stay on Whaleboat Island about 4 miles from where we were. So we go to Whaleboat. Maine is soooo pretty. The island were great and the ocean was fun. It was pretty calm when we were on it but its because we hugged the coast. It was hard kayaking, my arms started hurting man. I never do arm exercises. Well...it was good though. We set up camp on this little foresty part of the island. There are rocks and stuff. We had to haul the kayaks up the rocks...ugh...dude i hated that. We always had to carry the kayaks. We sat and spoke. ate delicious pizza...that anna, jan, and i made. Then we looked at these little things that lit up every time we moved the water. Muy cool. Then sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Third Day: Tuesday, August 10, 2004
Again woke up early- 7 am. Ate breakfast, which was pancakes. Then loaded the kayaks and hauled them to the water. Then we left !! We kayaked to Eagle Island. This is where Admiral Peary's house is. He used to live in it and we looked around the house. It was gorgeous. We saw his route to the North Pole and everything that he did. It was cool. he had a huge polar bear skin in his study, which I really wanted to touch but we couldnt. We hung out on the island. Searched for Seaglass. We can make jewelry from Sea glass. Seaglass is very pretty. I slept a little on the grass. We ate lunch. Then after spending like 4 hours on this island we left to Bangs Island. This is truly enjoyed. Once we were on Bangs we went to explore. We found Raspberry bushes and we ate the raspberries off the bushes...delicious! Daniela and I crossed from bangs to a smaller island by walking across. It was funny...lol the water wasnt deep it was probably waist deep. We found a dead seal pup...muy sad!! Then we left to go to Crow Island. Where we were going to sleep. There was a Cabin there and since it was supposed to rain we slept in the Cabin. The cabin was kind of scary. It was empty and broken down and all these things written on the wall. And I always get ideas from those scary cabin movies. Well I slept fine if it wasnt for the annoying ass mosquito buzzing in my ear. Whatever. Then in our little talk that we do every night we had to choose a scene that we liked and send it to someone. I sent a great view I saw to my mom. hA! Then eat and sleep...of course.
The Fourth Day: Wednesday, August 11, 2004
Woke up later- at 8 oclock. Then we loaded, ate, and kayaked. It was good weather except for a little rain in the morning. However the sun came up when we started to kayak. This was the longest kayak ride. We did like 6 miles or 5 or whatever. But we kayaked to JEwel Island. There were some "wicked fun" (lingo I learned up in Maine) swells there. They were absolutely awesome. They were like way high that we couldn't even see the person in front of us. It was a great ride. O man we were all yelling Wooo...because it was Fantastic. So we got to Surprise Beach. We were going to get Lobster but it was too late. So then we explored Jewel Island. This was the Island furthest from land. It was out into the open Ocean. It was used by the army in WW2. So we explored the towers and we climbed all the way to the top of both the towers. Then we explored the uderground Bunker and we saw a lot of destroyed houses and the well/fountain they had. It was sooo cool. We walked all over the Island. Then we explored the punchbowl. The punchbowl is a place where all the animals are in. We walked in it and we found crabs and lobster. We tried to catch them but it didnt work. O well...it was fun trying anyway. I slipped and fell and it was the funniest thing ever. Then after all the exploring we did. We built a fire and had a burrito dinner...that I made. Then we all joked about Anna's bf Alonso. Haha...it was funny. Then we did fun games. Like the stick dance. Lol I wont tell what the trick to it is, but it was so simple I don't know why I didn't get it at first. Ugh...whatevr. Then we had marshies, which was good. Lol...The beach was mad windy though, so when we went to sleep we slept with the noise of the wind and the ocean, it was great! Wicked fun!!
More later... because it is too much for me to write now...
