Of Hummers and Bikinis

So, I arrive at work this morning and find that practically every parking space on the entire street that my office building sits on is filled with a Hummer of the H2/H3 variety. I guess they were having a convention or something.

Can someone please tell me what the appeal of these hideously ugly vehicles is? I suppose aesthetic tastes differ, but it seems like most people in the circle of people to whom I speak believe them to be either ugly or just "eh." I mean, I can see wanting an original real military Hummer, I suppose. I still they're ugly as sin but at least they're sort of cool in a unique "ugly duckling" sort of way. But the production ones? Look like any other SUV to me, only a little boxier. Yet they cost a lot more than practically any other SUV. So what's the appeal? Is it because they cost a lot more than most other SUVs, so you can feel all speshul, like a status symbol sort of thing? I just don't get it... If I wanted a status symbol car, I'd be heading for the Porsche dealership, m'self... Heck, the Hummer costs about as much as an entry-level Porsche, so why not?

Also, I've noticed a disturbing trend around here. When I go to the grocery store at lunch, I see at least one very fat woman wandering around in a bikini. The only other thing covering her is a sarong that just barely manages to wrap around her. It's happened two days in a row now. Different women. While I applaud these women's aplomb and apparently large quantities of self-confidence, it is still, I believe, just a wee bit odd. Even for Durango. So, I'm wondering if this happens to anyone else. Or is it just, as usual, a Durango thing?

With that, I'm off to a meeting at the bank. Yay. :p
