Comment on this entry with a pairing I ship from one of my fandoms (and I mean any, not just ones in which I am currently active) and I will tell you:
1. When I started shipping them
2. What I think their challenge is
3. What makes me happy about them
4. What makes me sad about them

Hey! You! Back in your closet!
*ahem* ANYWAY...
1. When I started shipping them
Hmmmm....Officially? I posted my first PJ thing to the now-defunct (I think?) Yahoo TF slash list in...2001, I think? But they'd been in my head a long while before that. I was just trying not to do the slash thing with TFs, for various reasons. Finding that damned Yahoo list broke my resolve, though. It was all Season 3 characters, it seemed, and I just felt this overwhelmingly devious need to break some people's brains. So, I wrote a P/J thing...while at a meditation retreat. *snicker* Yeah, my mind wasn't quite empty that long weekend, I'm afraid. Bad Nightwind! ;) I thought the pair would cause a simple WTF reaction and be totally ignored, but apparently other people liked the idea...
2. What I think their challenge is
Communication. As in, Prowl doesn't do it, and that gets mighty frustrating to one such as Jazz, who's all blah, blah, blah. Most would say that their conflicting personalities are the problem, but I don't really see them that way. They are opposites in some ways, yes, but in a complementary way, which is what attracted me to them in the first place.
3. What makes me happy about them
That they are so very complementary in a yin-yang sort of way. That kind of pair is the kind of pair that makes me very, VERY goopy.
4. What makes me sad about them
Nothing, really. They are my fun, mostly-angst-free pair.
5. What moment I wish had never happened
Well, canonically-speaking, there's the '86 movie, of course. But since I totally ignore that for my fic-writing purposes (which makes everything I write sort of AU, I suppose), I don't have to worry about that! Yay!
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other
Hmmmmmm....Hmmmmmmmm.... I...don't really know. Never really thought about it. So, let's give it some thought. :) Although it's really just a "who I might be able to see them with at all" sort of thing for me because I really, honestly, can't imagine either of them with anyone else. For me, if they weren't together, they'd be single. :) But for the sake of argument...
Jazz...I could see him with Sideswipe. They have some similarities and I think Sideswipe could use a dose of Jazz's maturity. Also, Sideswipe has always struck me as very insecure, and Jazz is probably one of the most secure Autobots and so could be helpful in that way.
Prowl...is harder. He doesn't generally let others in, not because I think he's cold and unemotional or at all clueless when it comes to matters of the heart, so to speak. Rather, in my head, his reticence exists because he's afraid of being hurt. So it'd have to be someone either very special or very...well, persistent. And...I really can't think of anyone who fits that description and who is also, IMO, compatible. Optimus Prime would probably come closest to someone whom I could see Prowl with...but I think there'd be ethical considerations involved with the leader being involved with anyone, which is why I keep Optimus (and Ratchet, for that matter) single unless I want to deal with Elita-1 (And I generally don't :) ). So...Poor Prowl. It's Jazz or no one, in by book. *laughs*
7. My happily ever after for them
Romantic goophead that I am, they'll become happy (but bickering) old marrieds as opposed to the happy (but bickering) "newlyweds" that they currently are in my head. They'll be...Well, like Hound and Trailbreaker, actually. ;)
