To say that Wesley was...confused, would be a gross understatement. Here they were, working for *the* enemy they'd been fighting against for years. No, Angel had explained, they weren't working *for* the enemy. The enemy was working for them. Which made no sense in Wesley's book but very little else did these days.

Wesley was a paranoid and suspicious man by nature. Naturally he didn't trust anyone in his department. He didn't trust this deal Angel had made. He didn't trust Gunn's sudden new brain. He didn't trust the fact that Cordelia just woke up. He didn't trust anyone around Fred and her that innocence she still carried around. Least of all he trusted their new liaison officer.

Lilah. Everytime he thought of her name he got a feeling that there had to be more. Other then the fact that they had been lovers for reasons he most certainly didn't understand, there was nothing. Almost as though there was some gap in his memory, but the more he thought about it, the less closer he became. Other then giving him a horrible headache he found out nothing. He tried to blame his paranoia. There was nothing wrong, Angel knew what he was doing and they were doing a lot of good work with the recourses they had.

Right. So why did he feel so uneasy? Why would he sleep with the enemy? Why would he even care about the enemy? Why were they really here? He couldn't figure it out and if there was something Wesley Wyndam-Pryce hated? It was a mystery he couldn't solve. It didn't help that Angel seemed to keep him extremely busy with this and that. It didn't help that Lilah kept showing up at the most inopportune times. Actually, a lot of things didn't help...such as him constantly *forgetting* there was a mystery he wanted to solve.

Or people disturbing him when he was busy.

"Bloody..." he muttered to himself, cursing Jennifer for not telling whomever this was that he was *busy*. "What?" He snarled, pinching the bridge of his nose and shuffling the papers he was working on uselessly on his desk.

Lilah had easily managed to get past Wesley's ditz of a secretary, by telling her she had a meeting with Wesley. She’d used that particular excuse at least four times alone in the last week; it wasn’t her fault that Wesley hired such an incompetent secretary. She walked into his office and sat herself down in one of the chairs that sat in front of his desk. “So what does his majesty have you researching this week?” She rarely if ever referred to Angel as boss. She shifted in her seat and crossed her legs. She could easily tell that this was a bad time, but that was half the fun. Lately she’d been purposely showing up in Wesley’s office when she knew he had a lot going on, just so she could see him. If there was one thing that she’d missed before being allowed back on this plane it had been being able to see and be near Wes. In a way she was still pissed at Angel for having done the memory spell on his friends; she also hated being the only other person who knew the truth, mainly because she saw first hand how it was affecting Wesley. A day didn’t go by where she wanted to just come out and tell Wes the reason for the gaps in his memory, but she kept quiet knowing what it would do to him and to the group as a whole. If they were ever to learn the truth she was sure they’d never look at their fearless leader the same way again. "You seem tense, why don't you take a break, You have heard of the concept right?"

If there was something Wesley didn't like it was getting disturbed while working. He hadn't liked it when he was just the researcher for Angel Investigations and Cordelia or Gunn would distract him with inane questions. And he didn't like it when he was working for a multi million dollar lawfirm and his secretary - the woman was usually very good at her job so he could guess who had slid past her - didn't manage to keep anyone out.

He sighed and didn't look up when he heard the familiar sound of high heels on the floor. The only other person he knew who'd wear shoes sounding like that was Cordelia and she knew better then to disturb him when he was at work. Mostly. Unless she was bored. Which meant...Lilah Morgan.

She'd taken up a habit of coming to see him more and more often. He wasn't a complete idiot, he could guess why she'd roam around in his office and not any one else's. He just wished he could put a finger on the 'why' it made him so uneasy. Instead of showing that - he did know better - he did what he always did. Ignore her for the majority of the time.

"Miss Morgan," he murmured, and even saying her name like that didn't sound right, "I'm busy. Was there something you wanted? If not, I've work to do."

Lilah frowned, it was one thing when the underlings of this place called her Miss Morgan, but it was a whole other story when it came from Wes. It sounded so wrong and utterly foreign to her. "It's Lilah, and there wasn't anything specific I just figured you've kept yourself locked away in here since six this morning you need to learn how to break away from your work sometimes Wes. Take a coffee break or something, hell go for a walk you can't keep yourself chained to that desk all day otherwise you're bound to slowly go insane."

He was well aware that he name was - is - Lilah. But hearing the small annoyance in her voice made him smile slightly. Wesley didn't smile often lately, or at all. And this wasn't a smile he had often shown when it had been just the three of them working the evil forces. Him, Angel and Cordelia.

He remembered those times fondly and often found himself missing those days.

Lilah's voice brought him back to the presence as she droned on about him needing to take a break. A small voice in the back of his mind asked him why in gods name she'd care about that anyway. He'd done her best to avoid her for a reason he couldn't put his finger on, not just because Angel had hinted at it. But apparently she was going to do her damnest to get in his way.

"I don't drink coffee," he murmured, putting one piece of paper down and picking up another. "I do, however, have a deadline to meet and my work isn't even halfway done. So if all you came here to do, Miss Morgan," he glanced up at her as he used that specific name and gave her a strained smile, "is to interrupt my work by stating I need a break? You're wasting my time and yours."

She frowned again at his words; this being around him without all of his memories, was becoming more and more difficult than she'd originally thought it would be. "Oh that’s right you're more the Earl Grey kind of guy. And trying to finish all that...,” She motioned to the ever growing stack of papers on his desk. "Is pointless you'll just have another stack that size or higher tomorrow. Besides even Angel your oh so fearless leader knows when to quit, not that he even knows what he's doing lately, but that's not the point. And as for time, please I have all the time in the world, I'm dead so it's not like I'm going anywhere, but fine I'll leave to your work, maybe Spike'll be more fun" She got up and started to head for the door, silently hoping that he'd stop her, there by proving to herself that she'd gotten somewhere with him this time. She knew Angel didn't want his friends to know about the spell, but being the only other person that had to share his burden was pissing Lilah off, so she'd tried dropping subtle hints each time she dropped into Wesley's office, hoping it might help fill in the gaps.

When she mentioned her being dead he couldn't help but wince. There was a brief flash of an axe and her laying on some kind of table. Wesley frowned, trying to chase that flash before it was gone. But it *was* gone before he could actually figure out what that was all about.

He sighed, rubbed his temples and willed the head-ache away. It would seem the headache had taken up residence in his head and wasn't planning on going away any time soon. And these flashes weren't helping.

"But at least I wont have *this* stack there tomorrow a well," he muttered, wondering why she so badly wanted him to take a bloody break. Didn't she have some work to do as well? It seemed to him he was the only one doing the job. Well, he and Gunn, whom he'd not seen around in...quite a while.

"Yes, yes. Why don't you go see Spike, hmm? He doesn't work so he's bound to be more fun." He paused, looking over her as she stood by the door.

"Lilah..." he wanted to ask her how she'd died. But somehow, deep down, he felt as though he *knew* how she'd died. "...never mind," he muttered, turning back to his work.

She sighed a bit dramatically. "Right, fine you're busy I'll just go." She turned and had only gotten as far as placing her hand on the door handle before he said her name, for the first time in weeks. She turned back to him, "Yeah?" She stood there waiting for him to finish, when he didn't she sighed again. "Good luck with the work Wes" She turned around and left his office going to find Spike.
