Meme thing: Ni. (That... is 2 in Japanese.)

May 16, 2009 01:04

DJ tagged me in ANOTHER meme! Oh, oh wonderful times. I'm actually watching a really depressing scifi movie right now and I'm almost certain by the end everyone will be dead. Heh. So this might be... interesting.

I tag... the same as last time. Heh. I'm so predictable: keikeya and auspank and sarahspank and applespank and arabrab47 and everyone else on my friends list.

Okay, so DJ picked these fandoms for me by LJ stalking me. (I may have picked different ones. Which is interesting. Hmmm. Okay.)

RULES: Comment and I'll LJ stalk you (or just... I don't know, pick something from knowing you at the Treehouse) to find THREE FANDOMS you apparently love. And then you answer these questions about them! (I'm... really bad at doing this. Like picking three fandoms. I don't know if I can. But I'll try!)

01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

Final Fantasy X
1. I had already played all of the non-PS2 Final Fantasy games, so it was expected that I would eventually play this one. But I didn't get my first video game console, the Playstation 2, until my 18th birthday when I bought it with money I had been saving up for a few months. Which was April of 2007, which was years and years after the game was released. It was interesting, too, since I had already read a good share of fanfiction by that time and I knew the ENTIRE story for the entire game. Even so, it was 100% worthwhile to play.
2. Seeing as the game revolves around death, I'm pretty sure I'll be loving it for a long time, even if it's not a focus. I usually forget this fandom exists, but I love it all the same! And because I still haven't finished the International Version yet. I'm like... 80% done, and then I got frustrated and quit because I was at one of my least favourite points, heh.
3. My favourite part of the game... Yuna's trial and the descent into Via Purifico. The trial points out that the Maesters of the religion are all unsent dead beings, and that the religion of Yevon is all about death: People die because of Sin, a summoner goes to battle Sin and loses his or her life in the process, and then there is a brief time of Calm before the process repeats eternally. And then I also love the part near the end with Yunalesca where Yuna learns she has to choose one of her Guardians to become the Final Aeon, which means she has to choose which of her Guardians to die along with her at the end. Oh. Oh, my. I'm waaaaaay too much a fan of character death.
4. I did at one point, I was writing a Mai-HiME / Final Fantasy X crossover. It wasn't half bad. Except I never finished it. I probably won't return to it.
5. It's a pretty large fandom as it is, and its peak time has passed, to be honest, seeing as it came out in 2001. Then again, I just finally got around to discovering it 6 years later. So, maybe.

Battlestar Galactica
1. Hmmm. I was looking on AfterEllen for something to watch, I think. I don't watch a lot of TV, and I wanted something that wasn't annoyingly stereotypical, something with a lot of diversity, so I felt that was a fair place to look. I think I discovered it via an article on Razor and then I decided I was going to watch it on an article about the Season 3 finale (which means I was 100% spoiled for the finale, heh.) I downloaded the mini and watched it on a Sunday afternoon in October, when I was avoiding my physics homework because I had worked 5:30AM-1:30PM and was just too frakking tired to give enough thought to the problems. And I was slightly disappointed. I had heard such great things, and yeah, it was awesome, but... something didn't click yet. So, I hesitantly went to sidereel because I couldn't get torrents to work and marathoned most of Season 1 Monday after classes. I got pretty far, can't remember how far. I hit the Season 1 finale the next night around 12AM. Now, this was before I became a true Insomniac like I am now, before I stayed up until 11:30 at the latest. But I was so concerned - did Adama live? - that I just HAD to watch the next episode. And that's when I realized - I was absolutely hooked! And I finished the entire series in 5 more days, even watching in the 10 minute breaks between classes and before school and everything. So... 8 days total. With maitaining a 3.9 cumulative GPA after that semester. Go me! (My... GPA is slightly lower, now... it's 3.87. *cries*)
2. I hope to stay in. The thing with my other fandoms, like Xenosaga, for example, I love the frakking crap out of it, maybe even more than BSG, but I never really became that active. I usually last about 6-8 months in a fandom before I find myself moving on. But I have TeamSpank to keep me focused on Katee and BSG, and so I think that'll really help me stay in this time.
3. My favourite episode is Crossroads 2. I love the Cylon reveal, and Tigh's line: "I am Saul Tigh. I am an officer in the Colonial Fleet. Whatever else I am, whatever else I may be, that's the man I want to be. And if I die today, then that's the man I'll be," is my favourite line in the ENTIRE series. Hands down. I love Hogan's delivery on that line, the way he emphasises that last bit. I also love that Starbuck comes back (of course!) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the special effect pull out at the end to All Along the Watchtower. Brilliant. My second favourite episode is Scar, simply because Starbuck is hot with the StarPony. There's really no other reason, to be honest. Except that... she's so hot in this episode, heh. My third favourite episode is Sometimes A Great Notion. I'm a big fan of fucked up and morbid stuff, as anyone who was in the Treehouse this morning would know (...sorry...), so Dee killing herself + Starbuck holding her own funeral... seriously, I loved it. So much. I re-watch this episode all the time when I'm bored. My fourth favourite episode is Razor. Because I... have become a Kara / Kendra shipper (thanks, smirk and Apple!) and that's the only time it works. Oh, and HARBINGER, of course. Can't forget the HARBINGER! Okay, this is getting long. I should... stop.
4. I do! Besides my epic achievements in TeamSpank, this LJ is filled with fanfic. I have an epic Kara / Kendra, a 1 sentence table for Kara / Kendra, a New Caprica Kara in Leoben's Dollhouse one-shot, and I'm working on a huge epic post-No Exit AU. All in only about 2 months. Pretty good so far.
5. Of course! Now that it's pretty much over, it's the best time, in my opinion, marathon the whole damned thing in like... two weeks.

The Matrix (DJ let me replace Firefly with this, because I know the Matrix so so so much better.)
1. I can't even remember, to be honest. This is so lame of me. Haha! All I know is that I watched it on TV once with my dad when I was in my mid-teens - maybe 15 or so - and I loved it so much. The grocery store I worked for had $1 movie rentals, so every 3 months or so, I'd get this craving to watch it again and I'd fork over the $1 to rent it. For my 17th birthday, I realized enough was enough and put it on my birthday list. My sister and brother went in and got me a 10 DVD boxset. And... it was amazing. I still re-watch it at least twice a year. It's been a long time, though. Before BSG, at least. I might pop that in this weekend after I watch Requiem for a Dream and Battle Royale...
2. I will always stay in this fandom. It's one of those that just sticks with me, because it's 100% relevant to my career path. I'm a computer engineering major, and I'd love to focus on AI. The best fictional depiction of this applied is in the Matrix.
3. I enjoy the first movie the best, of course. The second and third movie were really just one long action sequence to me. Don't get me wrong - I love action sequences, but I'd like them to have a point or be balanced out by character development. (Although... the highway stuff was genius.) But as for favourite scenes... oh, I don't know. Hmmm. Anytime Morpheus talks, I just love how formally he speaks. I'm a huge fan of non-conversational English, haha! When Neo sees the Matrix in Matrix code while he's in the Matrix, that's huge. Oh! I know. The whole point of the Oracle telling Neo he's not the One even though he is, because it's necessary for him not to believe himself so that Morpheus can be saved. I think that's extremely moving - because... just because. (It's 1AM, forgive my coherency leaving me.)
4. Um, you don't touch the Matrix. You just don't. No fanfic. No fanart. Just leave it the frak alone.
5. YES! A million times, yes. (Keik, I'm looking at you, watch those last two movies! I'm watching TNG for you!) It just never gets old, even though it's 10 years old, it still looks new, the special effects and everything are just top notch.

Oh, my. I'm finally done. I've typed so much stuff today. I feel rather productive.

meme, real stuff
