All this Valentine talk is entertaining me greatly... I for one personally knew 'Saint' Valentine, and I can attest to his decided lack of saintliness. The man was an ass, to put it straightly, and an absolute cad when it came to women. He would be terribly put out if he were to learn from beyond the grave that his holiday, rather than worship of him, has turned to worship of romance.
Ahahaha. I am so very amused. ^_____^
February has long been a month of romance, before Valentine was even born. The sin for which he was supposedly martyred, according to the history books, involves marrying soldiers against the will of the prefect because the prefect believed soldiers were more effective without families waiting for them to return alive. This is true. However, the books neglect to mention that the soldiers paid him rather a lot for the illegal service. He was executed, yes, but he hardly went without a fuss.
Oh, Valentine. I rather miss the idiot.
I personally have nothing against Valentine's Day, quite the opposite in fact. I plan to make a trip to my new home in Belgium to pick up some gifts tonight. Would anyone like me to pick them up something for their beloved ones while I am there? The chocolate is, as I'm sure you've heard, insurpassable. I would be happy to assist you in your romantic endeavours. ^___^
'saint' valentine,
valentine's day,
