Hubby took me to my reunion this evening. He started out this afternoon by rather snarkily telling me that, because he hadn't slept well the night before, he wasn't going to be able to stay awake for the entire evening (the event ran from 8pm-12:30am). I repeatedly told him, both before and during the event, that I wasn't going to miss out on an event I'd waited twenty years for, particularly since I'd missed my tenth reunion.
On the plus side, I got to look a former school bully in the eye and tell him I didn't appreciate him spitting gum into my hair which had to be removed with scissors. Another girl who'd always been a total bitch to me back then actually came up to me and acted glad to see me, so we were able to have several nice conversations together. I also got to see several old friends I hadn't seen in twenty years. I also had one person come up to me to tell me she remembered me. I didn't remember her at all, but hey, I'm always up for making new friends :-)
On the minus side, hubby decided about an hour and a half into the event that nobody else would show up, so staying would be a waste of time, and he actually told me I should get a taxi home if I wanted to stay later. I correctly predicted that most people would show up later than that, so, as I said before, I told hubby I hadn't waited twenty years just to miss out because he was tired, so he finally agreed to go sleep in the car. The other "minus", at least for me, was that they'd promised "an evening of eighties music", which didn't really happen. A lot of what they played was early 90s, and since we graduated *in* 1990 I didn't like the fact that they just skipped over plenty of good eighties music--Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls, Scritti Politti, ABC, etc--and actually played, I shit you not, Milli Vanilli.
I got contact info for four people, so I sent them an email with my contact info. It'll be interesting to see how many of them respond.
Overall, a pleasant evening, and I'm glad I went.
