Just got back from the University of Saint Francis to inquire about their Physician Assistant program.
Yeah. It's nearly impossible to get into.
Turns out I would have to go back to school for another 33 credits, which in itself is fine.
Then I would have to take the GRE, which is essentially the SAT for grad school.
Plus I would need two years of direct patient care experience.
And this is all before even applying for the program.
There are over 450 applicants at that particular school each enrollment period, and... 23 seats.
Yes, that's right. 23 seats. You do the math. In short, the odds of actually getting in are not in my favor.
Assuming the stars align properly and I'm actually accepted into the program, I'm looking at over two years of solid school at over 50 hours a week.
Quite obviously, there's no way I could work during this time.
Also just as obviously, any intention of Justin and I starting a family during this time will be near impossible.
Oh, and did I mention the cost? I didn't? Silly me. We're looking at over $100,000 for the entire two-year program. Sure, it's a fair amount less than going to, say, Medical School, but we're not made of money.
It sucks. I shouldn't have even bothered looking at the course list, because I was getting excited about everything I would learn... until I was shot out of the sky. In a flaming death spiral.
So. Obviously this is not a possibility.
My next step is to look at some of the 2-year degrees offered by local colleges in the Medical Field.
But none of them offer the courses I really want to take.
Sigh.
