After thinking long and hard on this, and doing piles of research, I've decided to...
Get a fishie.
A male betta, to be precise.
Here he is, all cooped up in his tiny little cup:
He's hard to see, because I didn't want to use the flash and scare the daylights out of him, and he's tucked away in a quiet spot where the cats can't get to him. But he's very pretty, in different shades of blue.
Here's his new home, waiting for him:
I desperately want to add him to it now because I hate seeing him in that little cup, swimming around in his own waste, but the tank has to cycle for 24 hours before I can do so safely. Besides.. who knows how long he was in there in the pet store.. I'm sure a few more hours won't bother him too much. It's me I'm worried about!
It's a relatively small tank at about 1.5 gallons, which is small for an aquarium, but large enough for a single betta without being those horrible little 'desktop' artistic betta tanks which hardly leaves them enough room to turn around, let alone really swim.
I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow when I put him in after work.
I still need a name for him, too.. hmm. I'm open to suggestions!
