The Gentleman Bastards by Scott Lynch! Lots of action, scheming, adventure! (no gay characters but so what? It's amazing!)

Anything by Tanya Huff.

Anything by Charlaine Harris.

True, but plenty of subtext. It's a lovely story of male platonic love, that's for sure ;)

I don't have any other suggestions I don't think but I will say that the "Doctrine" series is really quite fantastic. I love Sarah Monette's style and I'm rather jealous of how well she handles her different voices. [Felix's chapters sound nothing like Mildmay's chapters and whatnot.]

Aside from dying to read The White Road, I am very eagerly waiting for Corambis [Doctrine's next book]to come.

I'll have to look into The Sharing Knife.

Hm...Has anyone read Havemercy by Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett?
It's pretty decent--and rather interesting. I believe there's a sequel coming out sometime, as well. I believe that one is going to be called Shadow Magic?

Also, if you like Melusine, etc all...there is a community for Sarah Monette on LJ. Hehe...come by if you want! It's called The_Mirador.

Aah~ (: I'll have to take a look. Thank you!
And yeah, as far as I know it's Shadow Magic. I wasn't sure when I saw it mentioned on the thremedon comm but a friend of mine says it's the sequel. ;3 So I'm pretty confident in that.

Fiona Patton - strong bi and gay characters in a world where the royalty take up with same sex partners so they don't spawn bastard children. The best one to start with is The Painter Knight.

They are not sequential.

Lois is one of my favorite writers. A friend of mine said I should read her Vorkosigan books, and, well, I curse his name to this day. They're SF, and nothing at all like Nightrunner, but I love them so. (I like SF, F, whatever.)

CJ Cherryh's Cyteen has a gay protagonist, actually.

Cyteen is amazing; I was wondering when someone was going to rec it.

I love Sarah Monette too, but I'd say her stuff is a bit heavier than the NR books, not something you'd want to hit if you're looking for a similar read.

The Fall of The Kings by Ellen Kushner and Delia Sherman & Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner are both excellent.

There's a Richard's childhood novella being published in (April's?) F&SF Magazine. I'm gonna have to buy it.

Oooh, Swordspoint. That one's my favorite book of all time!
