Today was such a beautiful day. I got up and went in to work to explain to my sub what to do for the day. There were some unusual complications, a co-worker who didn't want the sub using her computer (totally understandable) and a sub with very little to NO tech skill. But I got things going just fine. I grabbed breakfast at McDonald's and then went to Office Depot to verify their finishing options.
Then I spent the morning editing and fiddling. At 1:00 I tried to upload my file to the Office Depot site, but I couldn't get it to work. No problem. I took a shower, gathered my stuff and drove to the store. I left my printing job in their hands and went to lunch. At 4:00 I couldn't hold in my anxiety any more, so I drove back to find out how things were going.
They were not. Going that is.
Half my thesis printed just fine, eight times. Which would be awesome, if I hadn't asked for four complete copies...
For some reason, the file printed to page 188 and then started over and over and over. I was there until every option was exhausted. I had them bind two of the half copies and headed to Jean's class.
I know this doesn't come close to conveying the horror of watching page after page of unwanted material print. We must have wasted two reams of paper. I hated to throw out all those copies of my work. And I was looking forward to having it turned in and over with, but all I could see were the corpses of my thesis raw and half formed piling up around me. These malformed monstrosities made me sympathize with Victor Frankenstein for the first time. I just wanted to run.
Right now I am sitting next to my printer as it churns out the second half of my paper. It is printing so slowly that I wonder if that is caused by the same thing that stopped it from printing at all. sigh.
Tomorrow I take the second half that I printed to Office Depot for them to bind with the first half they printed. EJ is going to deliver it for me.
I'm sure if I hadn't been in a hurry, if I'd printed it yesterday like I planned this wouldn't be a problem at all.
