I believe I just made the Potato Salad to End All Potato Salads.
Yes, I did finish it after 1 AM. I didn't start until after 9 or so, then I stopped for a bit to let the potatoes cool, and to balance my checkbook. Plus the kids deserved some attention too.
I added a ton of yummy stuff, a combo of stuff to make the sauce, and lots of herbs (fresh and from the shakers). Oh, and it is made with delicious purple potatoes! Most of the ingredients are from the Farmer's Market too.
Today was pretty freekin' fabulous in general. I heard from the awesome hippy neighbor lady, Kat, in the morning, so I'm going to go do some canning tomorrow. I think she mentioned Saurkraut and raspberry or blueberry jams! She's a really neat lady, and has two awesome dogs too.
Chris is out for moose season doing some road hunting with his brother. I was a little irritated that he didn't call me to let me know he didn't want dinner tonight. I called to check, since otherwise he tends to show up and ask, "What's for dinner? I'm so hungry!" If I say screw it and eat without him. I guess I just won't see him at all this weekend, maybe even week, now. That's fine. That means I don't have to worry about cooking decent dinners. I can live off leftovers and quick stuff. Sometimes I end up just eating veggies. I do have a nice bunch of brussel sprouts to roast. Plus a big bag of peas I just shelled this weekend. Mmmm! I could do a stir fry, I have carrots, radish, and celery too!
I am thawing a moose roast, so I might do it up tomorrow evening as something to munch all week. That will be awesome too.
I did end up going out and about today. I looked around at a couple of local fabric stores. One was having a "Hunting Widow" sale. They also had a 20% off sale for fancy yarn. Now I have some Angora I want to make into a scarf for myself. Or maybe a hat. Or a something... Plus a piece of fabric or two did follow me home as well. I'm not addicted. Never.
I also found some super cheep and pretty yarn at Michaels on sale with the coupon. Plus some cool shawl patterns I might mess with this winter.
JoAnns was fun to browse as well. I'm debating one of those QuiltBlocks pre cut all you have to do is stitch style quilts. They have a really pretty "block a month" one at Joanns now. It's called
Pieceful Paisley and has some really lovely fall looking colors. I do need to get in gear with my other quilt. I had to stop and figure out what I wanted to do, since the intersecting seams won't match that well (and I really don't want to rip each block totally apart to entirely redo the WHOLE thing, plus the person who cut it really didn't do it that well). I plan on adding little skinny runner strips of other colors in between the block strips. Sort of the way it began with the stripes of flannel, but cut properly and in nice matching fabric so it won't fray apart. It is an awesome quilt so far. I need to work on it some more. Everything slowed down quite a bit this summer since it was so freekin' hot for so long.
The evening wasn't too lively, after finding out Chris wasn't showing up, I just heated a quick soup up and kicked back for a few before embarking on the Epic Potato Salad Endeavor. I'm really glad I did. In spite of very tired and achy feet, I had a lot of fun and it's amazing.
The bunnies were puzzled as to what I was up to. Freya kept hiding in her little castle, so I ended up closing her door. That way I could put her litter pan back where it belongs so she can pee in it, and it keeps Thor out of it from eating her food. He doesn't need baby bunny food, he's big enough...
That said, he did get plenty of treats!! I tossed him a few scraps of rabbit-friendly cuttings. Freya got a very tiny sample of each too. She's still young for too much excitement in her diet. Tonight was a bit of an experiment with tiny bits of different things. So far so good, she seems happy and wanting more.
I'm pretty excited, I finally have a new phone coming. I ended up going through Amazon, since it was still AT&T via Amazon, but way cheaper. Free shipping and a $.01 phone. The activation fee was less than what Walmart wanted to charge too. Plus I just don't have any faith in the Walmart people being able to get it to work without messing up my account. I still remember when Joe upgraded his phone at Sam's Club some years back... what a clusterfuck. (Added a line rather than upgraded, screwed up his plan, etc Took forever talking on the phone with AT&T while we were in the store to get it straightened out.)
So within the next couple of weeks I'll have a Rugby III. It's not a smartphone or anything, but my old phone is getting kind of sketchy from time to time. This is about the only phone they make that I can use with AT&T that I think I could deal with now. I checked out the other flip phones, and am not a huge fan. Betty has one of them, and the thing gives her a lot of trouble. So hopefully I will like the new Rugby. I also will make sure the data, texting, PITT, and everything else is disabled as soon as I receive it. I JUST want it for calls and quick photos. That's it. It's all I want. Being bombarded by the internet and all of that stuff constantly is too much for me. I need a break. That's also why I really don't like it when friends insist on showing me some video on their phone, or a picture on the internet they found funny, or their facebook, or ANYTHING. Can't we get a rest and just do stuff in person?! Really. I honestly don't give a shit about the latest LOLCat. Sometimes I just want to eat dinner with friends and live in the real world around us.
I think that's why I like crafts so much. They are a real tactile thing that is THERE. I get a product out of them rather than just wasted hours.
Now it's raining again, it's super late, and I need to get to bed so I can go enjoy my day of canning!!!!! :D Good times on the long weekend.
