1. Brian Perez’s first benefit was a success and I think everyone had a great time, dancing to bands and euro-trance and hip hop, acting goofy, wearing plastic clothes and beating the heat. We raised somewhere in the ballpark of $300 to help pay Brizzahh’s medical bills. In ranking order highlights included: 5)
Tik///Tik’s noise house bass boom set 4)
Bon Voyage’s awesome cover of T-Pain’s “Buy You a Drink” 3) Brizzah showing up and getting to sit on his throne 2) The sing-along to “Party in the 909” during
IE’s set 1) Watching Kevin from
Knight Rider almost light himself on fire. Anyway, the whole thing was an amazing rager. Check Sean Carnage’s blog for
pictures. 2. The Chorus Vol. 1 EP was recently completed and mailed up to Portland where
Star Ship Stereo will pair it with a recording of similar length by
Littles Paia. We’re expecting a pretty quick turnover on this one because Mike Zorman tends to be a pretty efficient dude. A sample is up on my
myspace page currently. My side consists of 25 tracks all under 30 seconds, choruses if you will.
3. The Midwest Vacation EP, which really has some of my best material should be completed soon. I could quote you an estimated date, but it would inevitably be wrong. I need to send
Narf Records a picture of a cornfield to make the photoshop cover. I guess, probably within the next month it will drop. This will be a positive development, especially because I sold the last Narf EP, Love DUI, at a brisk pace.
4. Artwork for the Girls of Meth tape is in the process of being assembled by Chris at
Unread Records. I’m not really sure what the visual results will be, but we shall see soon. Expect that record within the next month or so also. Listen to a preview on my
myspace.
5. Another benefit for Brian Perez is scheduled for Sept 22 at Back to the Grind in good old Riverside. Playing thus far are
Sleeping Me,
Human Host and
Zombelle.
6. I’m not playing any shows in September. This is for a good reason. I will be recording, writing new songs and fulfilling plenty of requests that I contribute to such and such a comp. On my list are recordings for
Barf, Flannel Banjo,
Folktale, as well as a new Shrimper record. I’m will also be working on a couple other non solo outfits such as
Sky Pigs with Brian Perez and Adult Release with Kyle Mabson. Apparently I have a show with some jock noise band this month though, whatevs. I hope the weather cools down so I can actually accomplish some of these goals.
7. Who did I get compared to this week? I was called the Bruce Springsteen of the IE (which is the New Jersey of the West). Not bad. No Billy Bragg comparisons this week, thankfully.
