JOHN THILL MUSIC UPDATE
1. BENEFIT FOR BRIAN PEREZ
Brian Perez has been sick. He is going to need two surgeries to fix some serious stomach ailments. You may know know him he's from our RIVERSIDE crew and he plays in the band CHILD PORNOGRAPHY. We are holding a big benefit blowout for him at PEHRSPACE on SEPTEMBER 1ST. The night will start at 6:30 with a potluck and BBQ and then commence with music. For five very beneficial dollars you can see FOOT VILLAGE, I.E., PIZZA! (new motherfuckers), TIK///TIK, WHITMAN,BON VOYAGE,JOHN THILL, ANCHORS FOR ARCHITECTS. I'll be debuting new songs.
2. NEW TRACK ON MYSPACE
I posted a new song titled POMONA GIRLS last night. It was recorded while I was pretty intoxicated, I figured it would work for that song sing it's simple and sloppiness and ruckus might lend it some character. Chris Payne (Whitman) played a student guitar and knife solo on the track, which sounds pretty terrifying. I've decided I'm sending this song to HOW TO BE A MCROWAVE for their comp, since topically it is so So-Cal centric.
3. IDEAS CHANGE 2xCASSETTE AVAILABLE
This was a long time coming, but it is finally available. Six of my songs are part of a GREENTAPE double tape comp featuring Churchburners, Handmedown Satellite and the awesome DBH. These tracks are all about rivers. They are Santa Ana River, Mojave River, Rio Seco, L.A. River, Rio Colorado and River Neuse. I'll have paypal buttons up for this release sometime soon. Sorry I'm slow.
4. GIRLS OF METH RECORDING FINISHED
I finished recording the Girls of Meth tape a little while back and the master has been mailed off to Pennsylvania so Chris from UNREAD can work his magic. Chris Payne made some very sketchy looking artwork that I have yet to send. Possibly today.
5. UNAIDS RECORDS COMP
I contributed a track to a comp being compiled by UNAIDS RECORDS out of Greensboro, NC. Since i lived in North Carolina for a while I decided to give them one of the songs I wrote while I lived there. The track in question ins called W-S NIGHTS and it is available nowhere else at this time.
6. HEART OF GRIME UPDATE
Slowly but surely this is moving toward release on SHRIMPER. I saw the artwork proofs and they look good. Right now the release is quoted for Halloweenish - hopefully in time for a Southwestern jaunt I have planned with I.E.
7. CACHE OF "A PEAL OF BELLS" IN MY POSSESSION
So long ago I ran out of copies of this AUM RIFLE release called A PEAL OF BELLS that SHRIMPER RECORDS did a few years ago. But now I have lots more. I'll put up a paypal button for this too. AUM RIFLE is myself and others and it has a more psychedelic and musique concrete feel than my solo material.
8. MERCH SHORTAGES
I sold out of my LOVE DUI 3" if you want copies go to NARF RECORDS. I may be able to purchase more at some point, but that is still n the mists of the future. I have one copy left of the DESERT SEA tape. Snap it up if you want it. In that case, when its gone its gone.
9. THE CHORUS EP
I have been neglecting this half finished EP for some time now. Its going n a STAR SHIP STEREO split with LITTLES PAIA, but the project is time intensive. The idea is to string together 25 or 30 tracks under 30 seconds that function as small chorus capsules. So this week I'm working on that.
10. SUN, SMOG AND HATE COMP
I wrote my song for the Sun, Smog and Hate Comp that FOLKTALE RECORDS is doing. The song is called "Smog Machine." The comp will feature artists from the Inland Empire and Phoenix, AZ. These include VOICE ON TAPE, WHITMAN, FOOT OX, SPLINTER CAKE, I LOVE MY DEAD GAY SON
