Someone on my friends list recently had one of those postings asking everyone what they thought of her. Of course she got all good answers form people since she's a great girl. Miss America kinda-material too. In her responses back she was like and I am paraphrasing "It made me so happy that I wanted to cry".
Ok, I've gotten to the point where I only cry if I absolutely feel hopeless. Not even when I'm sad, just hopeless.
Well, her saying that made me probe to a deeper question. WHY does the winner for Miss America pageants ALWAYS cry when they are announced as the winner? EVEN at my sister's Miss Teen FLorida Pageant in 2000, the winner, Miss Teen Sarasota cried.
The only reason I could think that they are crying is b/c of ALL THE EFFORT that is put into competing for a pageant. THink about it, paying a makeup/hair specialist, buying a $1000 dress, going to the tanning booth, answering questions form judges with the answer "I want world peace", changing into youre swimsuit and evening gown in the same room as everyone else who is competing against you, and WAXING. YES, WAXING. OUCH! I've never WAXED, obviously, but just the THOUGHT of it sounds PAINFUL and enough to make me wanna cry!
For once, I wanna see a winner of a Miss America pageant jump up and down (and YES, in her high heals) and spike the crown she gets and start high-fiving the runners up like a football player who just won the Superbowl. HELL, I'd liek to see her supporters tear down a goal post or something on the stage to that equivalent! I wanna see the runners up spank her butt like a baseball player who just hit a game-winning homerun.
I saw that movie w/ Sandra Bullock, I think it was called Miss Congeniality. Sandra Bullock's character was my kinda pageant contestant-REAL! A striaght-talker.
When they asked all the contestants, what change would you like to see, all of them said "world peace". Sandra Bullock's character was "original" and said "stricter punishments for probation violators, AND world peace".
On a sidenote. My sister didn't win the pageant or end up in the final 10 or whatever and I thought she should have compared to the other girls there. She was better-looking then most of them and definitely smarter. My sister won "Best Interview" in that pageant.
Wanna know the intelligence of some people? One girl said she wanted to go to University of Miami or University of Fort Lauderdale for college. I've lived in Fort Lauderdale since 1993 and STILL have NOT SEEN a Univ of Ft. Lauderdale! I wouldda bullshitted that answer and said "Harvard"! THe judges would think "that girl aims high!"
