PSA: Opus is only three days away!

Mar 10, 2009 12:39

Hey everyone! It's time for my highly biased Public Service Announcement:

Don't forget, Opus is only three days away! It starts this Friday, the 13th, and runs through Sunday, the 15th. Now is the time to get your geek on, so spread the word to any poor shlubs who haven't heard what's going down this weekend. Friday night's going to be the Dark Wizard's Ball hosted by Avistrum Academy of Sorcery (endorsed by J.K. Rowling herself!) to kick things off with a fun dance and get everyone in the partying mood, because, come on, it's Friday the 13th! Dressing up like a wizard isn't required, but it is encouraged, and totally fun, so you should do it anyway. And after the Dark Wizard's Ball everyone's favorite audience participation cult classic will be across the hall: Rocky Horror! Do the Time Warp, get a "barely legal lap dance" and all the fun that's always to be had at Rocky.

More awesomeness awaits on Saturday with a slew of panels and demos, an advance reading of Ilona Andrew's (our author Guest of Honor) new book, Magic Strikes (available exclusively at Opus two weeks before it goes on sale anywhere else!) and the Guest of Honor dinner where you can sit down to a fantastic meal with all five of Opus' Guests of Honor, including the one and only Voltaire (be still my swooning fangirl heart) who will be doing a concert later that night! The costume contest is also Saturday, so dress up because even if you're feeling a little stage shy and don't want to get up there, everyone will be mingling and the judges, featuring Artist Guest of Honor Gil Bruvel, can award prizes to anyone they see in costume they think deserves one. :D

And don't forget Sunday just because it's the end of the weekend. We're still packed with events for everyone to enjoy from still more fabulous panels, to body painting, a prop/costuming latex demo, sword fighting, the Art Auction, and a Q&A session following the closing ceremonies where James will stick around and listen to every last person who has something to say about how the show went (so for you opinionated types, feel free to talk your hearts out).

If you've already bought your ticket, awesome, I can't wait to see you there! If not, don't forget to get them soon (of course, if you really want to wait until the day you get there so you can give Opus more money, I'm not going to stop you) as the pre-reg tickets are five dollars cheaper than the "at the door" price. If you're planning on staying the whole weekend (which you definitely should) make sure to check out the hotel deal we've got set up. It's only 69.00 per night, which is a killer deal, and it's the best way to make sure you don't miss out. Some of the best parties and fun happen impromptu at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning because everyone knows... all the cool kids get hotel rooms :)

And tell your friends to come too! The more people who come and get in on the fun, the better this weekend's going to be (and the more likely it is we can do this whole shebang again next year). Love you all!

p.s. The full schedule isn't up yet, but it is done and should be on the website in the next day or two, depending on when James has time. Make sure to check out the website so you can see what all's going on and when. http://www.opusfest.com

p.p.s. The program book is really pretty... and it's not just because I got less than six hours of sleep spread over two days to help make it so.

p.p.p.s. Yes I'm biased... Shut up, it's still pretty. :P
